As a senior, Jasmine Robinson has been a four-year stalwart for the Allen program.
However, in that time she has also seen the growth of Texas Women’s Classic and the sport as a whole.
“It is mind-blowing; we came here my freshmen year and now here close to this we were done by 10 (a.m.)” Robinson said. “To come out here and see all the girls wrestling is amazing. I can’t wait to see it grow more in the next five years.
“I’m seeing all these girls fight as hard as we can. My freshman year we didn’t see any of these. It is really cool to see how far and how much other girls want it.”
Robinson was one of two champions for the Eagles at the tournament, scoring 181 points and winning the team title.
Coppell was second with 152 points, with Axle (115) and El Paso Eastwood (113) were closely bunched together. Amarillo Caprock finished fifth with 110 points.
There were 49 teams that scored points in the tournament.
Robinson won a showdown of top-ranked wrestlers in the 165-pound finals. No. 1 in Class 6A, she pinned Class 5A No. 1-ranked Makayla Johnson of Princeton by pin 56 seconds. It was the first loss of the year for Johnson….
