The Final Takedown: Jake Moon’s Uncertain Path to College Wrestling

Jake Moon just wants a chance.

The Rockwall season continues to add to his resume on the mat but so far one of the best wrestlers in the state of Texas doesn’t know where he be next year.

The senior is still uncommitted and is searching for a college to compete at next year. He won the Class 6A 150-pound title in February.

In his three years of competing — an injury wiped out his first year — he was 126-20 with a state title and two third-place finishes. In the last two seasons, he lost four matches each year.

“It has not turned out like I thought,” Moon said of the recruiting process. “It is frustration it is so late in the year and I wanted to find a place now. I thought (recruiting) would be more in my favor … I feel like I’m good. I feel like I have been competing at some of the highest-level tournaments. I like to compete and I go to a lot of tournaments; it is not like I’m hiding from anyone. I’m not scared.”

Moon was debating going to the U.S. Open this weekend in Las Vegas but a chance for a recruiting trip became an option so he chose not to go to Vegas.

And the recruiting trip got pushed back….
