On Wednesday, December 6th, the Klein HS Bearkats hosted a triangular match with Cy Ranch and Cy Creek. There was a possibility that fourteen ranked boys and eleven ranked girls could wrestle, but because of a long wrestling weekend in Nebraska for Klein and an upcoming trip to the 5th Annual Texas Women’s Classic for the state’s top ranked Cy Ranch girls team, there were only two girls and six boys written into the scorebooks. To add to the uniqueness of this meet, Klein boys only wrestled the Cy Ranch boys.
First up was Cy Ranch taking on Cy Creek.
106 lbs: Kyle Bui of Cy Ranch takes the points for a forfeit at this weight. CyR 6 – CyC 0
114 lbs: Dreagan Flores of CC took an early lead over Christopher Stiles of CR, 2-0 into the second period. Flores extended the lead with an escape and takedown to 5-0 going into the third period. Both takedowns happened after Flores got Stiles’ hip down on its side. In the third, things started to unravel for Flores. He was called for three straight clasping penalties, which cost him 4 points. Then he called neutral going into the next whistle, which brought Stiles within two points. Stiles tied it up by getting a takedown right before the period ended, bringing it into sudden overtime. Stiles won the match with a takedown in OT, 9-7. CyR 9 – CyC 0
120 lbs: Xzavier Rosa, the #11 ranked wrestler from Cy Creek took on Mateo DeLaRosa of CyR. Rosa scored the first takedown, but DeLaIsla was able to stand, grab a headlock and force rosa down onto his back for the pin at 1:20. CyR 15 – CyC 0
126 lbs: Jacob Perez-Zapata collected the 6 forfeit points for Cy Ranch. CyR 21 –CyC 0
132 lbs: Kevin McAleavey, the #15 from 138 lbs challenged #11 in 132 lbs. Ashton Gamboa. The first period had McAleavey get the first takedown, and ride Gamboa into the second period, where the Cy Creek wrestler got it going after choosing bottom. McAleavey sscored 7 points via two TDs a nearfall and an escape, to only 1 point by Gamboa, going into the third with an 11-1 lead. The third period was full of action as they started in neutral, Gamboa got a quick double leg takedown, McAleavey stood, threw a whizzer and reversed Gamboa, who escaped and took McAleavey down again. McAleavey escaped and was taken down by Gamboa again, only to be reversed and put on his back for a two point nearfall by McAleavey, 19-8 MD by McAleavey. CyR 21 – CyC 4
138 lbs: David Morris of CyC vs. Tyler Donnette of CyR. This match was competitive through the first period, as both wrestlers were tied at 4 going into the second period. This is where the scoring took a turn in Donnette’s favor, as he increased his lead to 9-4 with an escape, takedown and nearfall. In the third, Morris seemed to get an injury to his shoulder, and eventually defaulted the match to his Cy Ranch opponenet…
