Klein Collins Tigers Hosts Klein Oak Panthers

The Klein Collins Tigers hosted their in-district neighbor, the Klein Oak Panthers on Wednesday night. Only 4.5 miles separates the #16 ranked Tigers Girls’ team with the #3 Klein Oak team. You could tell that a lot of the girls knew each other, probably from area club wrestling.

Starting off the night would be the Girls with #6 Chloe Hanes (30-11) of Oak against Vivian Cadena (5-11) at 100 lbs. Hanes would not waste any time, getting a takedown and working a pinning combination to earn a first period pin of her Tiger opponent at 1:39 of the first period. Klein Oak 6, Klein Collins 0

At 107 lbs. Genesis Jara (11-15) of Oak met Sarah Van Horn (10-5) of Collins. In the first period, Van Horn struck first with a takedown and two-point nearfall. She stayed in total control through the rest of the period when she earned a three-point nearfall at the buzzer. Van Horn scored a quick reversal, putting Jara on her back as a result, for another three-point nearfall. Only a tremendous back bridge saved Jara from being pinned. Another three-point nearfall resulted in a 15-0 tech fall for Van Horn. Klein Oak 6, Klein Collins 5.

There was a double forfeit at 114.

Alyssa Almeida of Klein Oak earned a forfeit at 120 lbs., as #1 ranked Gabriella Martinez of Collins was not participating in this dual match. Klein Oak 12, Klein Collins 5

At 126 lbs. Kennedi Lewis of Klein Oak would pick up another six-point forfeit for the Panthers. Klein Oak 18, Klein Collins 5

Chinh Nguyen (9-13) of Klein Collins took on #18 Laita Perez (36-7) of Oak at the 132 lb. weight class. Perez wrestled at the 126 lb. class at the CFISD. Perez got her takedown thirteen seconds into the period with an ankle pick that didn’t make it all the way to the ankle, but did the job just as well. A loose shoe of Nguyen’s gave Perez a penalty point. Perez stayed on top for the beginning of the second period, and as Nguyen stood, Perez took her down, and it looked like Nguyen bounced her head off of the mat, but in fact twisted her ankle when being brought down. Klein Oak 24, Klein Collins 5

Up next was 138 lbs. Pam Carlos of KO against Lydia Ventresca of KC. Carlos had a single-leg takedown for two. After a half nelson was put on Ventresca while still on her knees, Carlos turned the Tiger over for the eventual pin at 1:23. Klein Oak 30, Klein Collins 5.

The next bout was one in which Josie Clarke (14-13), the Klein Oak #9 ranked 138 pounder, challenged Klein Collins’ Aniyea Dickerson (25-9), the #10 ranked 145 pounder. The two wrestlers spent a minute and fifty seconds fighting for the best hand control and tie-up position when Clarke shot for a single and Dickerson was able to cross-face and spin to get her two right before the buzzer. Clarke deferred and Dickerson chose up. Dickerson eventually broke down Clark and sunk a deep half turning Clarke to her back, then Dickerson switched holds and got the pin at 02. Good win for Dickerson. Klein Oak 30, Klein Collins 11…
