The NHSCA Folkstyle National Championships are going down this weekend at Virginia Beach, Virginia with almost 100 Texas wrestlers making the trip east this weekend. 98 Texas wrestlers total will be battling it out against nationally ranked wrestlers from around the USA making this one of the largest amount of Texas wrestlers making the journey east since the NHSCA has been happening. Wrestling will start Friday morning and conclude with the finals matches Sunday afternoon making this a 3 day event. Each event is divided up by grade for the high school boys, senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman tournaments. The womens tournament will be from 9th grade thur senior class. Middle School will be 7th and 8th grade.
Texas has 23 seeded wrestlers with 2-#1 seeds in Caio Aron in the Junior division and Izayiah Chavez in the Middle School division. Anna Vogt and Jake Moon did get #2 seeds. Steel Meyers, Isaac Sheeren, and Dorian Olivarez got #3 seeds.
Last year Caio Aron and Dorian Olivarez both made the finals but placed 2nd in their sophomore division. Cadyen Rios placed 3rd as an 8th grader, and Zurri Zamora placed 3rd last year as well. Other placers returning this weekend are Kelby Bernard and Javin Jackson Bey placed 6th along with Walker Walls placing 5th as Sophomores. Jair Jackson Bey and Will Deutschlander both placed 8th as freshman.
Other returning Texas wrestlers who are looking to place this year are Keagan Sieracki, Hunter Bogner, and Vincent Echavarry as juniors. Kevin Contreras, Jake Moon, and Isaac Sheeren as seniors.
