Frisco has had a meteoric rise in girls wrestling in recent years and its results showed during the final day of the 5A finals at the Berry Center.
The Raccoons placed third overall with 63 points, earning the final trophy by four points ahead of Richmond Foster.
Three of the six wrestlers from the original Frisco High School brought home medals.
Frisco didn’t record any points in 2019 and 2020 and placed 15th, 15th and 12th over the next three years, respectively.
Natalie Lopez and Gabriela Garzona both placed third.
Lopez was the top-ranked wrestler at 107 pounds but lost her perfect season in the semifinals, falling to Cedar Park’s Rachel Corley.
Lopez won her next two, beating No. 2-ranked Nahiim Arenas from El Paso Bel Air by a 5-2 decision and then beat city rival Mia Ramirez of Frisco Centennial in the third-place match.
Lopez was 52-1 on the year and recorded her 100th career win in the tournament.
She thanked her practice partner, Francesca Carballo, for helping her.
“She made me so much better and we worked so hard to improve each other,” Lopez said.
