When the announcement of the most outstanding wrestler among heavier 7 weight classes at the Texas Outlaw Tournament was made, Joseph Liescheski had a pretty good idea it was going to be an Allen wrestler.
Just not the one he expected — himself.
“It feels amazing, I’ve never done that before,” said Allen’s 150-pounder. “It was so surprised. I didn’t figure myself, I figured they’d give it to Cash (Aiden Cooley).”
The No. 1-ranked wrestler in 6A had a 3-2 win over the No. 2-ranked Jake Moon of Rockwall, 3-2, in the finals.
Liescheski won six matches and improved to 26-3 on the season.
Allen, No. 1 in the 6A team rankings, finished with four individual champions and won the team title as well with 511 points. Rockwall was second with 488 1/2 points, while North DeSoto, La., took home the final team plaque with 425 1/2 points.
Other winners for the Eagles were Maddux Tindal, Javin Jackson-Bey and Cooley.
Tindal, a freshman, picked up six wins to finish first at 106 pounds. The top-ranked wrestler in his class, he secured an 11-1 major decision over Class 6A No. 3-ranked Brandon Patillo of Woodlands College Park in the finals.
Jackson-Bey (144) pinned North DeSoto’s Dalton Compton in 2:21 to secure Allen’s second title on Saturday during the two-day event inside its home gym.
Jackson-Bey is now 21-1 after a 6-0 showing.
Cooley, another top-ranked wrestler for Allen, also beat a North DeSoto wrestler in the finals. In the 190-pound finals, he pinned Caden Robison in 53 seconds.
All seven wins by Cooley — now 29-2 — came by falls.
Rockwall, No. 7 in Class 6A team rankings, was the runner-up in the field.
