New Wrestling Alignments

The new District Alignments was released last month, and we got a lot of new faces and some interesting changes.  Some schools moved to 6A from 5A and some dropped programs all together, while other districts were totally realigned.

5A schools now have 272 wrestling programs listed with 9 new schools with wrestling. And 6A has a total of 178 schools with only 2 new programs.

5A had the most re-alignment with some large districts.

We will go through each district and note the changes the best we can starting with 5A.

Class 5A

Region 1

District 1 was not much on movement as it lost a program in El Paso Young Women’s STEAM but gained El Paso Da Vinci to keep their total to 21 schools in the district.

District 2 had the Canyon schools move down from district 3, Randall HS, Canyon HS, and West Plains HS. Plus added 2 more schools in Plainview and Sanford-Fritch to m,ake this district a total of 15 schools.

District 3 although, lost the Canyon schools, gained 6 more schools with 4 new programs and 1 dropping down from 6A and 1 moving into the district from district 6. The new programs are Wichita Falls Memorial, Wichita Falls Legacy, Holiday, and Harrold.  The 1 school that dropped from 6A was Wolforth Frenship and Brock HS moved in from district 6-5A.  Happy HS dropped from the list making the new total for this district 16 up from 14.

District 4 didn’t add any schools however they lost 4 programs with 1, Aledo moving to 6A. the other 3, Ft Worth Southwest, Ft Worth young Men’s Leadership Acad, and Ft Worth Young Womens Leadership Acad.  Show to be off the list leaving the total at 18 programs.

Region 2

District 5 didn’t lose any programs but gained 2 in Ponder HS, and Valley View HS making this district total 17.

District 6. This district got all shook up with every school leaving and being moved to district 9 in Region 3 and all of district 9 moving to district 6.  Sticking with district 6, home of the State Champs Melissa. Killeen Chaparral and Lake Belton moved to 6A. Mesquite HS moved down from 6A to this district. The district also got 4 new programs in Crandall HS, Nevada Community, Caddo Mills HS and Howe HS bring the district total to 16.

District 7 kept all their Dallas Schools the same with a total of 21.

District 8 All the Frisco Schools all stayed the same except for Wakeland HS moving to 6A, into Allen HS district.  Richland Prosper HS which was in district 9 moved to district 8. Total here is only 13 schools.

Region 3

District 9 which all moved from district 6 which is south DFW schools down I45 to Killeen over to San Antonio area in Salado.  These schools will have some travelling come district championships.  2 Killeen Schools dropped from 6A to 5A here in Killeen HS, and Shoemaker, Shoemaker still shows listed in the 6A, district 13 though?  Lancaster HS moved down from 6A as well. Cameron Yoe moved up from district 10, Axtell HS and Mart HS are 2 new additions making this district a total of 18 programs.

District 10 Onalaska HS is a new addition here, keeping their total at 13 schools.

District 11 a large district with all Houston schools added 4 more schools to this year’s total of 23.  Chavez, Wisdom, Sterling, and Math, Science & Tech

District 12 we move over to the Austin area.  Lots of changes here.  4 schools move up to 6A, Cedar Park, Georgetown East View, Leander, and Leander Rouse.  While all the district 13 Austin Schools moved down to district 12. 2 new schools are shown with Austin Ann Richards and Austin Eastside HS’s making this district total 19.

Region 4

District 13 most all the schools from district 14 moved to this district with 3 new programs.  Comal Canyon Lake, SA Young Mens Leadership, and Buda Live Oak. New total here is 19.

District 14 sized down some with the San Antonio Schools moving to 13, however, the Corpus Christi Schools moved here from district 15. New school here is Corpus Christi West Oso.  Making this total at 12.

District 15 we are in south Texas and not much changes here except for some realigning between district 16.  Brownsville Hanna dropped down from 6A, and Edinburg Vela moved up to 6A with the other Edinburg HS’s. 1 newcomer in Vanguard Van Gogh HS. Total schools are 15.

District 16, the last district had PSJA North move up to 6A and a new program, Hidalgo Early College makes the list. This total is 16 schools.

Class 6A

Region 1

District 1 remains unchanged with 7 El Paso Schools.

District 2 see’s Aledo HS moving up from 5A, while Wolfforth Frenship HS moved down to 5A.  This keeps the total the same at 11 programs.

District 3 has Lancaster HS dropping down to 5A, while Dallas Jesuit moves in from district 5. This keeps the schools at 11 programs.

District 4 remains unchanged with 10 programs.

Region 2

District 5 we start to see some bigger changes.  Like we said in district 3, Dallas Jesuit moves out.  Both Wylie HS and Wylie East HS move out of district 6 into this district.  North Forney HS becomes the first new program to the list here in 6A thus far. Giving this district a total of 12 schools. 

District 6 the home of the Allen HS 15x state champs, like we said above had the Wylie schools move out, but we see the addition of a 5A Frisco School live its nest and join the 6A ranks in Frisco Wakeland High School making it the first Frisco school to leave 5A out of the other 12 Frisco schools.  Making this district 11 schools total.

District 7 remains unchanged with 7 total schools all from Klein ISD with Bryan and Waller High Schools added.

District 8 remains unchanged as well with all the Conroe ISD schools and Willis HS keeping their total at 7 as well.

Region 3

District 9 is all the Katy schools and no changes here either with 9 total here.

District 10 remains unchanged with all the Cypress Schools.  12 total schools.

District 11 goes from 12 schools down to 9 total with Clute Brazoswood moving up from 5A.  Chavez, Wisdom, and Math Science and Tech Schools moved down to 5A.  The Humble Schools switch districts with the Richmond schools and Lamar Fulshears.

District 12 like we said above, the Humble schools moved in here, keeping the school total at 9.

Region 4

District 13 Austin Vandegrift moves out to district 14 to join the other Austin schools.  Cedar Park Vista Ridge moves to district 14 as well.   Killeen HS and Killeen Shoemaker drop down to 5A.  While Killeen Chaparral moves up to 6A from 5A. Lake Belton HS moves up from 5A, and Round Rock Stony Pt HS. Is new to the list making this district a total of 13 schools.

District 14 like we said had Vandegrift and Vista Ridge change districts.  But we also have the addition of Buda Hays, Cedar Park, Leander, and Leander Rouse High Schools make the jump from 5A to 6A making this district 13 strong.

District 15 had 2 move ins from 5A, Comal Piper and San Antonio Wagner.  San Marcus moved in from district 14 making this district 13 total schools.

District 16 had 2 5A schools move up and 1 school move down.  Edinburg Vela finally joins the other Edinburg Schools along with PSJA North making the jump to 6A.  Brownsville Hanna HS drops to 5A making the total 12.
