This weekend Texas like always will send over 100 wrestlers to Des Moines, Iowa for the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals. 217 Texas wrestlers are registered from elementary to high school.
The High School Boys is broke down into 2 categories 11th & 12th Grade and 9th & 10th grade. Just like Fargo but this is folk style. the 11th & 12th grade boys total 86 registered wrestlers as the 9th & 10th grade boys total only 42. The high school girls are in just one division 9th-10th but will wrestle folk style as well and their total is 54 strong. The Middle School and Elementary boys total 23 and 12 respectfully. No Middle School or Elementary girls were registered as of this morning.
Just a few notables to watch. At 120 Caden Brown of Allen who had beaten the state champ and runner up last year at 113 before getting injured and missing districts thur state will be back in action in the 11th & 12th grade division. Tyten Volks of Frisco Centennial who is #1 ranked at 138-5A is at 138. Austin Hartmangruber of San Antonio Lee and the #1 ranked 160-6A wrestler will be at 160. Along with Bryce McLaren the #1 ranked 160lb wrestler in 5A. A lot of Best Trained/Allen wrestlers along with Boneyard, 3F wrestling club, Spartan Mat Club, Vici and Ohana. Caprock and Lovejoy add to the mix as well. The 9th & 10th grade boys have state champ from 106-6A Joseph Liescheski of Best Trained bumping up to 120. #1 ranked and state runner up Nathaniel Ruiz of Caprock makes the trip. Gavin Ramos of NXT Level makes the trip from El Paso. Also a couple of freshman like Caio Aron of Boneyard/College Park and Aodhan Jimenez of 512 Outlaws look to make their mark in the high school level.
The Girls notables are way to many to mention but here is a few. 2x state champ Olivia DeGeorgio is registered at 100lb. Avery Ashley of Lovejoy and 3x state medalist makes the trip registered at 112 along with state champ Eliana Martinez who is not wrestling high school wrestling this year forgoing her senior season to train with Rise Wrestling Club. Basically the 112 weight class has 3 Texas state champs registered counting Bayley Trang. State Champ Olivia Moreno is at 122lb. State Champ Aubrey Yauger is at 138lb.
