On June 14th, 2023, the Dallas Chapter of Wrestlers in Business held its First fundraiser for our Texas Collegiate Wrestling Foundation at the Crow Library, owned by Harlan and Kathy Crow. It was a magical night! The purpose was to raise money to support the future of Texas Collegiate Wrestling.
Over eighty-four people attended the event. The evening was capped off by testimonial videosĀ from legends Dan Gable, Bo Nickal, Kenny Monday, and Kendall Cross. Our speakers knocked itĀ out of the park. Tervel Dlagnev, Admiral Colin Kilrain, Jack Spates, and Army Medal of HonorĀ recipient Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta mesmerized the crowd with their testimonies. We hadĀ a surprise guest appearance from Andre Metzger. Each of them hammered home their supportĀ for our cause and what wrestling means to them. Tarleton State University (TSU) in Stephenville is earmarked as our first Division I wrestlingĀ team. We need to raise $2M by September 15, 2023, to start the program and $1M a yearĀ subsequently for the next three years. The initial $2M investment will provide funding forĀ recruiting, coaches, and equipment. The facilities are outstanding and ready for use for the firstĀ Texas Division I Womenās and Menās wrestling programs.Ā
Texas wrestling exploded in the past 20 years, and the future looks even brighter. Texas has theĀ second-highest number of high school female wrestlers in the nation, and the boys just passedĀ Ohio moving into fourth place. We currently have 420 high school wrestling programs in Texas, with new school districts coming annually. Texas has over 3,200 high schools, giving us aĀ potential 800% growth rate. There are few opportunities today with such incredible potential.Ā
Our foundation was created to provide the infrastructure to facilitate the growth of Texas wrestling. Tarleton State University (TSU) is our first Division I school. Once we finalize ourĀ agreement with Tarleton State University (TSU) and get this program established, other schoolsĀ will follow.Ā
