Las Cruces Invitational Girls Recap

Our Texas girls went on a business trip to Las Cruces with Franklin bringing back the team championship trophy with 209 points with 7 placers and 3 individual champions. Americas places 4^th with 130 points, 7^th place Hanks with 100 points and 10^th place Chapin with 72 points. 

At 100-weight class Jubilee Rendon makes her presence known across state lines currently top ranked in Texas. Starting off with a 1^st round fall over Anchondo of El Dorado. Next Rendon gets a 2^nd period fall over Portillo of Gadsden. In the quarter finals Rendon goes back to work with a 2^nd period fall over Irvine of Artesia. In the semis she continues to roll past the competition with a 1^st period fall over Moreno of Socorro. In the finals Rendon faced off against Sedillo of Las Cruces. Rendon started off strong with a takedown but is un-able to turn Sedillo. Rendon chooses bottom 2^nd period gets the escape into a takedown and rides out Sedillo to take a 5-0 lead. 3^rd period Sedillo chooses neutral, Rendon gets back to her attacks for a takedown, Sedillo with a reversal but Rendon adds a reversal of her own and rides out the period to be your champion 9-2 over Sedillo

At 107 weight class freshman Haili Rodarte makes a splash after losing in the quarter finals to the eventual tournament champion Cordova of Rio Rancho. Rodarte fights back through the consolation bracket to place 4^th falling to Atma of Las Cruces. Rodarte is someone to keep your eyes on as the year goes on. 

114 weight class Fiona Smith of Franklin manages maneuver her way through the weight class. 1^st round Smith gets the fall over Rivera of Las Cruces. Next smith gets another 1^st period fall over Batres of Cleveland. Smith gets the 1^st period fall over Martinez of Horizon in the quarters. In the semis, Smith faces off against a top 20 wrestler in the state of Texas Gardner of Chapin, Smith and Gardner are all tied up 4-4 after the 3^rd period. In sudden victory Smith gets the takedown to send her to the finals. Smith faces off against Rubio of Carlsbad Smith answers first with a takedown and rides out Rubio the rest of the period. Smith defers and Rubio picks bottom, Rubio gets the reversal to tie it up 2-2 and rides out Smith to end the period. Smith chooses bottom in the 3^rd and is on the move until with less than 30 seconds left Rubio is able to catch Smith to get 2 near fall and eventually win the match 4-2 over Smith. 

At 120 weight class Edlyn Herrera of Eastlake manages to bounce back after losing in the 2^nd round. Herrera found herself facing Uribe of Jefferson a top 15 ranking in 5A. Herrera manages to take a 3^rd place finish over Uribe 8-3….
