She wrestled her way to a District championship, where she was then ranked #10 in the 102 weight class. After winning Regionals beating trinity smith of Azle, her ranking went up to #4. As her State championship run began her side of the bracket contained the #3 (Gissel Avellaneda) , #2 (Angelica Carillo) ranked wrestlers. Bunyavong ended up wrestling #13 (Janauya Butler), #2 (Angelica Carrillo), #7 (Adrianna Ornelas) making it to the State finals for the first time in FWISD history. She wrestled returning State champion #1 Ranked (Shania Villalba) with a record of 30-1 at the time. Bunyavong Wins the match 9-5 becoming the first person FWISD to ever win a state title.
