Carter Riverside's Jacqueline Bunyavong sets a School Record

Jacqueline Bunyavong has broken a couple of school records her senior year at Carter Riverside High School, being the school’s first ever girls Region Champion, also being the first State Champion in all FWISD.
Bunyavong started wrestling her freshman year and only had 1 win her whole season before suffering a knee injury that would close out her first year of wrestling. Her junior year she competed starting off the season 22-0 before taking her first loss at R.L. Turner Christmas classic. With the season ending Bunyavong finishes 5^th at the 102-weight class, making her a State alternate. After this Bunyavong was determined to win a State Championship, so over the summer she traveled to Ohio and trained with Ashland high school to improve to increase her chances. As the season began she started off strong winning matches against some ranked wrestlers at other weight classes. She wrestled her way to a District championship, where she was then ranked #10 in the 102 weight class. After winning Regionals beating trinity smith of Azle, her ranking went up to #4. As her State championship run began her side of the bracket contained the #3 (Gissel Avellaneda) , #2 (Angelica Carillo) ranked wrestlers. Bunyavong ended up wrestling #13 (Janauya Butler), #2 (Angelica Carrillo), #7 (Adrianna Ornelas) making it to the State finals for the first time in FWISD history. She wrestled returning State champion #1 Ranked (Shania Villalba) with a record of 30-1 at the time. Bunyavong Wins the match 9-5 becoming the first person FWISD to ever win a state title. Ending her season 31-3 winning a District, Reginals, and State Championship.   Congrats to Jacqueline Bunyavong and her accomplishments.
