Arlington Martin was geared up for a showdown with Allen in the boys’ part of the Trojan Classic this past weekend at Euless Trinity High School.
The top-ranked Eagles only sent a handful of JV wrestlers to Murray Activity Center for the two-day event, while the varsity was in Oklahoma.
Without the presence of Allen, the Warriors dominated the meet with nine finalists and rolled up 346 points. Runner-up Houston Cypress Ranch had second with 166 ½ points, followed by Midlothian (164) and Justin Northwest (163 ½).
All told there were 66 teams from all parts of the state at the meet held inside the indoor football facility with 11 mats going at one time.
“It was pretty cool,” said Martin’s 126-pounder Shawn Ryncarz, who won one of six titles for the Warriors, of the team’s success. “We wanted to see Allen, but our team is good. We’ve been training every day and getting out and hanging out and make sure we get the ‘W.’”
Ryncarz posted a 16-1 technical fall over Frisco Reedy’s Max Villasana in the 126 finals to cap a 5-0 weekend with four tech falls.
The Warriors won three titles in three of the first four finals.
