Texas Mat Talk: Tamyra Mensah-Stock

Tamyra Mensah-Stock is a Texan. Born in Chicago, but moved to Houston at the age of 2 months with her mom and twin sister Tarkyia.

A Katy Morton Ranch Alumni, Tamyra won 2 UIL State Championships (’10 & ’11) despite not wrestling until her sophomore year of HS. After High School, Tamyra attended Wayland Baptist University where she obtained her degree in Exercise and Sports Science.

As a Wrestler she continued her winning ways but becoming the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Associations National Champion in 2014 and 2017.
Tamyra burst on the International scene in 2016 securing the 68 kg world team spot, but didn’t get a chance to compete due to 68 kg not being an olympic weight that year.

She became an Olympian in 2020 and competed in Tokyo in 2021 where she became the first ever African American Women to win an olympic Gold medal for the United States. She followed that up with a 2021 World Bronze in Oslo. But ended 2022 back on top in Serbia as the 68 kg World Champion.

She is an avid Karaoke singer, tremendous wife, woman of God, and all around amazing person. Please follow her and continue to support her on her journey.
