Takedown Tactics: Klein Collins’ Epic Victory on Parents’ Night

On Wednesday night, the Klein Collins Tigers hosted the Jersey Village Falcons’ Girls and Boys teams in a Dual wrestling match during Parent’s Night. Four ranked wrestlers participated tonight. Jersey Village Girls had #5 100 lb Christine Tran and #5 145 lb Alexis Booth, while Klein Collins Girls had #10 120 lb Gabriella “Gabby” Martinez. On the Boys’ side, Jersey Village had #17 144 lb Robert Planes. None of the three Klein Collins’ ranked wrestlers participated in this match.

The Girls’ match started first. 

100 lbs: #5 Christine Tran of JV challenged Viviana Cadena of KC. Tran got her takedown fifty seconds into the match, then worked an armbar/wrist lock for a pin at 1:23. JV 6 – KC 0

107 lbs: Katlyn Ngyuen of JV met Ruby Montemayor of KC. Ngyuen scored the first takedown with a single, Montemayor escaped seven seconds later.  This pattern would continue four more times until Nguyen would pin the KC Tiger 3:56 in the second period. JV 12 – KC 0

114 lbs: Rocio Ribeiro of JV received a forfeit. JV 18 – KC 0

120 lbs: Chloe Caseres of JV took on #10 Gabriela “Gabby” Martinez of KC. Martinez, a 9^th grader, has had a strong start to her high school career, on Track Wrestling she has a 13-1 record, and also won the Super 32 Early Entry tournament at 120 lbs, as well as the Woodlands HS Invite last weekend and the Cy Ridge Classic in November. Her only loss so far this season came in the finals of the Ladies Rumble at the Rock, 6-0, to Miliyah Pacheco, last year’s UIL 5A 114 third place winner. Tonight, she took care of business in the first period; taking her opponent down after a failed leg shot, and using a power half to get a N3, then cradling up Caseres for the pin at 1:52. 126 lbs: Gabriella Berlanga of JV vs. Rita Long of KC. The first period belonged to Long as she earned the first takedown and 2, three point nearfall points before allowing Berlanga to get a reversal that she then escaped from. It was 9-1 going into the second period.  Long chose up, and never gave up her position getting the pin at 2:35. JV 18 – KC 12…
