On Saturday, January 30th, the seven teams from District 8 met at Conroe Grand Oaks High School for their end-of-year district tournament. Participating teams include the six Conroe high schools: Conroe, College Park, Oak Ridge, Caney Creek, The Woodlands, and Grand Oaks; as well as Willis HS.  The top four in each weight class will advance to the Region 2 tournament held at Allen HS next Friday and Saturday, the 7th and 8th of February.

100 lbs.

Valentina Vitaliano (34-10) of the Woodlands HS, the top seed scored a pin over Naylee Garza (17-10) of Conroe HS in their finals match.

Vitaliano used a double leg takedown to take a 3-0 lead into the second period. Garza chose neutral, but then gave up another double to Vitaliano. Garza was able to reverse when Vitaliano got too high, but she got caught down on her hip, and Vitaliano stepped over to get her own reversal, scooped the head and got the pin at 3:18.

107 lbs.

The second top-seeded Woodlands Highlander to reach the Finals was Dannielle Sizelove (35-7). Dannielle, who is ranked #3 met Miahem Jimenez (29-14) of Caney Creek in the finals. Sizelove scored the first takedown, and took that three-point lead into the second period. They started neutral, Jimenez shot, and Sizelove sprawled flat. She was then able to spin around for the takedown. With not much happening on the bottom, Sizelove broke Jimenez down and was able to sink an armbar and turn her over for the fall at 3:44 for the Highlanders second individual title.

114 lbs.

The third Woodlands HS top seed entered the circle, this time it was 2X State champ, and #1 ranked, Riley Rayome (44-0), to take on challenger Chloe Ryan (11-9) of Conroe. Ryan didn’t have a chance. Rayome used a single for 3, a NF-4, a NF-3, cut Ryan loose and took her down with another single, and finished the match with a pin at 0:57, extending her record to 46-0. Three in a row for Woodlands.

120 lbs.

Another top seed and #1 ranked wrestler, Vanessa De la Cruz (32-3) of College Park entered next to take on Camila Ortiz (9-4) of Conroe.
