In a balanced field, eight different teams had at least one champion at the Mike McCready Memorial Invitational held Saturday at Colleyville Heritage High School.
In a close team race, Princeton edged Carrollton Creekview by two, 211 to 209, to take home the team title. Defending Class 5A champions Justin Northwest took third with 168 points and Euless Trinity, a top-10 finisher last year in Class 6A, was fourth with 141 points.Â
Princeton had six of its 10 wrestlers in the finals and two of them came home as champions.
Titles went to Abbigail Staples at 126 and Makayla Johnson at 165. Staples, a freshman, went 4-0 with a trio of pins. She ended with a pin over Creekvidw’s Izzy Sandoval, pinning her at 5:24.
Johnson, a senior, went 4-0 as well and won in the finals by a 14-2 major decision over Trinty’s Jaidin Perkawsky-Green…
