NOVI SAD, Serbia – In a remarkable display of wrestling expertise, Texas wrestler Jasmine Robinson (a four-time Texas state champion from Allen) captured a silver medal in the 72 kg weight class at the 2025 U23 World Championships, held at SPENS in downtown Novi Sad. Robinson, representing Team USA, showcased her dominance by conceding zero points across her three preliminary matches leading up to the championship bout.
Robinson’s journey to the final was nothing short of flawless. In the round of 16, she faced Iryna Zablotska of Ukraine, a 2023 U23 World bronze medalist, and secured a pin in just 59 seconds with a score of 6-0. Moving to the quarterfinals, Robinson continued her streak against Hatice Nur Sari of Turkey, pinning her opponent in 1:20, again at 6-0. In the semifinals, she delivered a technical superiority victory over Veronika Vilk of Croatia, winning 10-0 with her signature double blasts. These victories highlighted Robinson’s defensive mastery and offensive efficiency, outscoring her opponents 22-0 en route to the gold medal match.
The final against Kyrgyzstan’s Nurzat Nurtaeva proved to be a thrilling contest. After a cautious first period where Nurtaeva took a 1-0 lead on a shot clock point, Robinson exploded in the second period, building a commanding 10-3 advantage. However, the momentum shifted dramatically as Nurtaeva capitalized on Robinson’s counterattacks. A failed chest wrap attempt by Robinson was reversed, initially scored 4-2 in her favor but challenged and adjusted to 4-0 for Nurtaeva. Shortly after, another defensive stand by Nurtaeva on a double underhook throw netted her four more points, flipping the score to 11-10. Despite a valiant effort, Robinson could not score in the closing moments, settling for silver.
This medal adds to Robinson’s impressive collection of age-group World honors. She previously earned a bronze at the U17 level, a gold at U20, and now this U23 silver, marking her third such achievement. A former U20 world champion, Robinson has established herself as a rising star in women’s freestyle wrestling, with her performance in Novi Sad underscoring her potential for future senior-level success.
As Team USA continues its campaign, Robinson’s silver contributes to the nation’s medal tally, tying in with strong showings from teammates like gold medalist Kylie Welker and fellow silver winner Audrey Jimenez. The tournament, which began earlier this week, wraps up with more action from American wrestlers in the coming days.
