The Mayde Creek Rams visited the Woodlands Highlanders on Wednesday for a night of Varsity and JV boys and girls wrestling. This is the first action for both teams since the weekend before the Thanksgiving break, and it is acting as a tune-up for the Katy Morton Ranch Maverick Stampede for both as well. The Maverick Stampede has grown into a rather large tournament, with just shy of 480 boys and 214 girls registered from around Texas.
The Girls started the action at 100 lbs. with Genesis Salmeron (5-2) of Mayde Creek challenging Valentina Vitaliano (10-2) of TWHS. Vitaliano is fresh off of a 1st place finish at the Cy Ridge Classic.Ā After a minute of setting up for the right position, Vitaliano shot a single and brought Salmeron to her back on the edge of the mat. With Salmeron out of the circle, Vitaliano was able to get the pin with her legs inbounds at 1:29. Vitaliano extends her record to 11-2 with the win.

Up next was Danielle Sizelove of TWHS and Hayden Tran of Mayde Creek. Sizelove had a 5th place at the Cy Ridge tournament, and is entering the match with an 11-2 record.Ā As Tran backed off a tie-up, Sizelove had a successful double-leg takedown for three. The whistle was blown after Tranās headgear came undone, and Sizelove helped get it free. But the niceties would stop after that, as Tran sat out, Sizelove put her on her back for a NF-3 and then the pin at 1:38.

At 114 lbs., 2X State champ and #1 ranked wrestler (120 lbs.) Riley Rayome, would take the mat against Mayde Creekās Jasmine Lopez. Rayome, 9-0, has wrestled at 114 her last eight matches, so her weight class in the rankings could change at next Wrestling Texas re-rankings.
Rayome used an underhook and chin strap to take Lopez down. Riley broke Lopez from her base and was able to turn her with a half to secure the fall at 1:18.
