El Paso Eastwood will be gunning for state title No. 3 in the past four years this weekend at the Berry Center.
The Lady Troopers won the title last year by 34 points and tied for the title in 2022 with Allen.
The win last year was the first time since 2020 that Allen didn’t win a state title.
Eastwood has three state titles — first in 5A in 2019 — and it enters the competition on Friday and Saturday as the top-ranked team.
Eastwood and No. 2-ranked Allen both have 7 wrestlers at the state meet, meaning it would be another close battle.
Third-ranked Katy, who was third at state last year, has five qualifiers. So does The Woodlands College Park, which finished second last year but enters this tournament unranked.
Flower Mound and Rockwall round out the top five, respectively. Both have four state qualifiers.
We break down each of the 14 weight classes, which is two more than last year’s final.
