El Paso Eastwood will be gunning for state title No. 3 in the past four years this weekend at the Berry Center.

The Lady Troopers won the title last year by 34 points and tied for the title in 2022 with Allen.

The win last year was the first time since 2020 that Allen didn’t win a state title.

Eastwood has three state titles — first in 5A in 2019 — and it enters the competition on Friday and Saturday as the top-ranked team.

Eastwood and No. 2-ranked Allen both have 7 wrestlers at the state meet, meaning it would be another close battle.

Third-ranked Katy, who was third at state last year, has five qualifiers. So does The Woodlands College Park, which finished second last year but enters this tournament unranked.

Flower Mound and Rockwall round out the top five, respectively. Both have four state qualifiers.

We break down each of the 14 weight classes, which is two more than last year’s final.

Jubilee Rendon, sr., El Paso Franklin — She’s No. 1 in the rankings and is 51-1 overall. She won a state title in 2023, second last year and was third in 2024.

Contenders

Katelynn Dockery, so., Bryan — She’s 31-1 and was sixth at 100 pounds last year

Natalie Roberson, jr., Katy — She’s ranked No. 2 heading into state. She’s 44-2 overall and was third at 100 last year.

Dark horse

Kaelani Palmer, sr., Richmond Foster — She’s one of five wrestlers with 40 or more wins. She’s 40-4 and ranked No. 8 and could see Rendon in the semifinals.

Emily Beltran, sr., Katy — She was the 107-pound champion last year. She’s 45-0 this year and we are betting she repeats.
