Xochitl Mota-Pettis is your U23 National Champion

Xochitl Mota-Pettis is your U23 National Champion.  Mota-Pettis finally gets her championship after placing 2ndin the UWW Junior Nationals and the Senior Nationals.  Mota-Pettis made quick work of Abigail Nette with a tech fall in 2:35 to capture the large Stop Sign.  Nette was the #4 ranked Senior at this weight

With 8 Texas girls in this bracket out of 23 wrestlers it was sure to have some Texas on Texas match ups. 4 of the wrestlers placed in the top 8.  Samara Chavez the #1 ranked high school wrestler ran the gauntlet over everyone on her way to the finals where she ran into Emily Shilson the #1 ranked 50kgs women.  Chavez had to settle for 2nd place.  Chavez had wins over Nia Pham from California but who wrestles for Wayland Baptist University so considered a Texas wrestler and also Maria Vidales from Dallas wrestling for Lions club out of Georgia where she attends college.  Pham and Jaclyn McNichols met up in the Consi 4 with the win going to Pham forcing McNichols to the 7th place match where she placed 8th. Vidales and Pham both where in the consolation semi finals with the win going to Vidales. Pham went on to take 5th place.  Vidales with a 4-0 decision took 3rd place.

Rebekah Cordova gets herself an 8th place finish.

Xochitl Mota-Pettis is the shining star here going 4-0 and finishing with a U23 National Championship only giving up 3 points in the 4 matches.  Serena Cervantes after losing her first match stormed back to take an 8thplace finish.

Kayla Munoz after losing her first match came back and won a 7th place finish as well.

72kgs
Destynie Pacheco lost her first match as well but was able to secure a 5th place finish.

76kgs
Richmond Fosters  HS Champ Nkechinyere Nwankwo lost her first match and battled back to take a 4th place finish

19 Texas wrestlers competed overall in the U23 championships with 10 wrestlers bring home the stop signs. Congratulations to all the competitors.
