Fresh off her Gold Medal win in Russia. Tamyra Mensah is Wrestlingtexas wrestler of the week.

KRASNOYARSK, Russia – Wayland Baptist’s Tamyra Mensah has done it again, this time in Russia.

Mensah, a senior at Wayland competing for Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, won a gold medal at 69 kg/152 lbs. on the first day of the respected Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix .

Why did you choose to come to Wayland? I came to Wayland because the atmosphere was great. The wrestling coaches were fantastic and I loved the tiger-striped singlet.
How did you get started wrestling and how old were you? When I was 15 years old I was still in track, but my sister asked me to try wrestling out. I went with her to practice and the coaches asked to see me tryout.

Hobbies: Watching movies and reading fiction
What has been your proudest athletic achievement to date? Winning the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
What do you feel like you bring your team, both athletically and personally? Charisma, energy, love, friendship, hard work, and competitiveness.
Favorite Food: Anything sweet
What are your goals for the future after college? Go to the Olympics in 2020.
