Womens National Team Finishes 5th.

The Womens Junior Nationals Duals wrapped up today and the Texas Black Team which was loaded with UIL state champs trying to better their 3rd place finish of 2 years ago had to settle for 5th place. The Texas Black team did finish 1st in their pool on the first day of competition. But in the Gold/Silver Bracket they ran into Team Illinois who won the Junior Women Nationals in 2019 and dropped their first dual. The next dual against Florida they came back from behind to win in the last few matches. That was the last dual Team Black would win the rest of the tournament. Its hard to say did the team lose their edge or is the national competition a whole lot better in the last few years? Probably little of both it was the top 6 teams in the dual tournament. However on a positive note. Jasmine Robinson and Hannah Francis went a perfect 8-0. Both girls made the All American Team with their undefeated record. Robinson was impressive that she won all her matches by fall before 2 minutes and dont believe she was scored upon. Francis held on to her #1 national ranking as well with all falls in the 1st 2 minutes except for 2 matches. Madison Canales went 1-0 but didn’t wrestle enough matches to qualify for All Team. Canales got injured in her first match. Nothing bad just holding out till Fargo Nationals.

Several of the girls only gave up one loss. Team Black Samara Chavez went 7-1 with her only loss to Florida. Madison Sandquist went 7-1 as well losing to California. Brittyn Corbishley also went 7-1 losing to Missouri. All the wrestlers they lost to was nationally ranked as well. Texas White had Alyssa Ruiz go 3-1. Avery Beckman was on her way to undefeated until she injury defaulted out had ended up going 8-1 as well as Emma Lozado going 8-1. Team Blue was giving up half their weights not fielding a full team so they didnt get as many matches but they did have some one loss women. Arianna Sauceda, Jocelyn Lass, Alyssa Ruiz, and Angelina Archulta all went 3-1.
