Team Texas wraps up the Cadet/16U National Freestyle Championships in a 3 way tie for 6th place with Brittyn Corbishley the highest placer for the Cadet Team bettering her last year showing of 3rd place. Team California took 1st, Illinois 2nd, Missouri 3rd, and Washington 4th. Colorado and New York shared 6th with Texas.
Brittyn Corbishley the #12 nationally ranked wrestler @180 met up with the #2 nationally ranked wrestler Brianna Staebler a Sophomore from Whitewater, Wisconsin. Brittyn on camera looked undersized to Staebler. Corbishley gave up a point in the first and in the 2nd period Corbishley gets the takedown to make it 2-1. Corbishley had the head locked and tried to snap her down and feet got caught and gave up the takedown. making it 3-2 with 45 seconds left and Staebler holds off the attacks of Corbishley to win 3-2. Corbishley settles for 2nd place making her the highest placing women cadet.
Elizabeth Duvall gets a 11-5 win to take 7th place she control the entire match @ 112
Devin Patton @ 127 after being down 5-0 in the first period comes back strong in the second period putting her opponent on her back for over a minute but only getting 2 points and that’s how it ended with Patton taking 6th place with a 5-2 loss.
Leilana Hernandez held a 4-0 lead in the first period and got another takedown in the 2nd period to end the match at 6-0 for the 7th place finish.
Jillian Wold took a 5th place finish by injury default @ 152.
Congratulations to all the wrestlers and Coaches. Look for all these cadet Women to compete with the Juniors starting on Tuesday the 16th.
