Uniform Change

Last Season the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Wrestling Rules Committee has changed the rules for the 2017/2018 wrestling season concerning the use of a 2-piece uniform.
An alternate two-piece uniform consisting of compression shorts or shorts designed for wrestling and a form-fitted compression shirt has been approved for the 2017-18 season in high school wrestling. Wrestlers will have the option of the new two-piece uniform or the traditional one-piece singlet.
The controversy or debate is.. Exactly what is acceptable in the new design because some is still left up to interpretation which in turns becomes the discretion of the Referee.
The Referee’s and the UIL are working diligently to come up with a standardization as some coaches are on the fence of “should they order the new design” or wait.

The new design of wrestling apparel has been seen in certain places like the Flo Wrestling, Who is #1 Matches.  The new design is geared towards hopefully bringing more athletes to the sport of wrestling.  The age old 1 piece singlet is in some opinions to revealing, and the new generation of kids dont like wearing it according coaches around the country.  Some say it will give unfair advantage to the 1 piece wrestler because the shirt is slick and more movable/loose on the 2 piece.

Below is a document that outlines some dimensions and rules.
