Triumph and Tenacity: Highlights from District 15-5A Girls’ Wrestling Championship

The District 15-5A girls’ wrestling competition, held over two days at Corpus Christi Carroll High School, showcased intense battles for individual honors and team supremacy. In the team standings, Corpus Christi Carroll emerged victorious with a total score of 172 points, narrowly edging out Corpus Christi King with 171.5 points, while Edinburg Robert Vela secured the third spot with 158.5 points. 

In the 100-pound category, the 1st Place Match featured a compelling duel between Abigail Mendoza of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Kailyn Bridges of Edinburg Vela, with Mendoza ultimately claiming victory in a fall at 3:11. The 3rd Place Match in the same weight class saw Haylee Torres of Harlingen South triumph over Ariana Martinez of Corpus Christi Carroll with a fall at 1:00. 

Moving to the 107-pound division, Trinity Duran of Corpus Christi King secured 1st Place with a fall at 4:47 over Amanda Arellano of Edinburg Vela. In the 3rd Place Match, Mya Maronen of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial prevailed over Apriya Wilson of Edcouch-Elsa with a fall at 2:09. 

At 114 pounds, Genevieve Bellino of Corpus Christi Carroll clinched the 1st Place title in a closely contested match against Danielle Silva of Edinburg Vela, winning by a narrow decision of 2-1. The 3rd Place Match in this category witnessed Rozella Fadaie of Brownsville Veterans Memorial

securing victory with a fall at 1:57 over Tyler Rokosz of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. 

Leah Cisneros of Corpus Christi Carroll dominated the 120-pound division, claiming 1st Place with a fall at 3:22 over Xandrea Garza-Hurtado of Corpus Christi Miller. The 3rd Place Match saw Chloe Duncan of Corpus Christi King triumph over Daniella Garcia of Brownsville Veterans Memorial with a technical fall at 3:00 (16-1). 

In the 126-pound category, Rylee Fox of Corpus Christi Ray emerged victorious in the 1st Place Match with a fall at 3:06 over Jeneca Darnley of Corpus Christi Carroll. Caelyn Morales of Edinburg Vela secured 3rd Place with a technical fall at 2:30 (15-0) over Emily Rodriguez of Brownsville Veterans Memorial….
