21st Lady Horns Classic in Amarillo being hosted by the Amarillo Caprock High School is the longest running girls tournament in the nation. The girls are 33 teams strong with almost all the panhandle teams being present along with three power house Oklahoma teams. One from Broken Arrow High School Oklahoma with head coach Texas State Champ Cassidy Jasperson at the helm, one from Altus Oklahoma while the other from Bryon Nelson Oklahoma. 2 Colorado teams will make the small journey across the border as well. Registered are 9 El Paso teams making the long trip from the west bringing all 4 Lubbock teams as well. Prosper Rockhill is the only north Texas team making the journey while Friendswood from the Houston area travels up as well. El Paso Franklin will be the only 6A team in the tournament. This will be a preview of the 5A Regional tournament coming soon next month. 50 of the 5A girls in the tournament are ranked in the top 20 with 5 of the 10 weights being the #1 ranked girl making plenty of room for potentially new #1’s. The 102lb weight class is the largest ranked group with 8 top 20 women, the #1 being Jaryn Ortegon of Canyon Randall, while 110 and 119 both have 7 of the top 20 including the #1’s in Avery Martinez of Canyon Randall and Tatianna Garcia of Caprock a state champ. Look for this tournament to be a game changer
