Owasso, Oklahoma
Once again, doing my favorite thing, watching high school wrestling. This time from the great state of Oklahoma at the Ram Duals at Owasso High School just outside of Tulsa.
Great venue for some high-level action. On paper, this was supposed to be about a 16-team tournament with it being round-robin the first day and pool play the next.
Unfortunately, several teams were a no-show. Oklahoma has the same flu bug as Texas, I guess. Nonetheless, 8 solid teams went head-to-head in a round-robin format spread over two days.
Bixby took first place, with College Park taking second and a three-way tie for third with Owasso, Carl Albert, and Deer Creek (no criteria given), followed by Claremore, Springdale, and Mystery.
Here is the Breakdown of how each team did.
1st Bixby (7-0)
Pretty impressive, only having 42 pts scored against them during the whole meet. They were never threatened.
The thing I was most impressed with was the way they carried themselves. They were humble in victory and the few losses that they took; there were no temper tantrums or anything else.
They listen to their coaches and were very respectful to their opponents.
It’s hard for me to point out who the top performers were as they all dominated even the back-ups, but here is what I saw:
Jersey Robb 215 (7-0) Did not get out of the first period, all wins by fall. This guy scares me, built like a tank, but I could tell he could have put a hurting on a few of the guys and he choose to just get the pin and move on.
Jace Roller 138 (7-0) Smooth and effortless, really no challenges all day. Didn’t get out of the 1st round with 7 pins. And he had the Flo to back it up.
