The Maverick Stampede: Boys Recap

A return to one of Texas’s great HS Sports Venue the Merrill Center is always a big thrill and especially when it is to see my favorite sport wrestling.

This 41-team banger didn’t disappoint in the least bit with plenty of ranking implicated matches, new star rising and a few heartbreaking defeats.

That nasty flu bug is still going around so we did have a few key people missing but it didn’t interfere with some great, high-quality matches.

Let’s start off with the team competition. Coming in 3rd with an impressive 3 wrestlers in the finals Houston Clear Lakes with 151.5 pts, up from 5a last year and showing they can hang with the 6a powers is Dripping Springs at 202 pts in 2nd with 4 in the finals and 3 champions, But College Park with the run-away 1st with 312.5 pts with 7 in the finals and 7 champions, they are proving that they are amongst the States elite teams.

So here is the breakdown of each weight classes championship match.

NR Jackson Shipley (Dripping Springs) Fr.

Dec 7-1

#5-5a Lucas Early (Humble Kingwood Park) Jr.

All Shipley needed was 2 TD and a NF in the 2nd to put this one away. With two wins over ranked opponents from 5a I would think this would get Shipley on the Rankings board.
