Like most coaches, Cason DeLucia has high expectations for his team.
“We had a great season (despite the COVID limitations that were put on) that ended in a district championship…the first since 2012. The program has grown to double-digit numbers. A far cry from 5 years ago when there were only 3 girls in the program.
We were hoping to have a few make it to the state tournament and had two that would have made it under normal conditions, but they placed 4th at regionals.
We only had two seniors last year and return quite a bit from last season so the expectations we have continue to be high. Our kids fight and scrap well and so last year’s mantra for us was ¨5 star culture vs. 5-star talent¨. We may not have the most talented group, but we expect to be in every match when it comes to the third round, not back down from any opponent and bring a piece of the Eastside of Lubbock when we hit the mat.“
