Franklin HS plays hosts to 17 school in The Gage Memorial Tournament. The Gage Memorial is a special tournament where Gage Schroeder wrestled for Franklin High School was known for his kindness and compassion for others. Gage aspired to become a doctor before his passing in a tragic accident. The Schroeder family also gives out scholarships for wrestlers through their foundation.
Bel Air girls keep up their winning ways with 4 champions and 5 placers at The Gage. It was a tight race to the top with their competition coming from the host team Franklin. Bel Air is able to edge out Franklin by 11 points to claim the team title 173-162.
Starting us off with top ranked wrestler in the state at 100 weight class and 12th ranked wrestler in the nation Jubilee Rendon of Franklin. Rendon begins the tournament with a 1st period fall over Barajas of Santa Teresa. Rendon goes right back to work with another 1st period pin over Portillo of Gadsden. Rendon moves on to the semis and faces Frausto of Del Valle. Rendon strikes first with a takedown and 2 near fall, after an escape by Frausto, Rendon of Franklin get right back into a takedown, 2 near fall, allows an escape and one more takedown before Rendon gets the fall. Moreno of Eastwood 11th ranked in the state awaits Rendon in the finals. Rendon wastes no time going in for a takedown and two consecutive near falls to go up 6-0 in the 1st period. Rendon chooses bottom to start the 2nd, Rendon escapes and gets right back into a takedown not long after Rendon gets the fall to be your champion at 100 weight class.
At 107 we have Nahim Arenas Senor stand out currently ranked 3rd in the state from Bel Air. Arenas first match she wastes no time getting to her takedown and 4 points of near fall before getting the fall over Armendariz of Fabens. Next up is Gutierez of Del Valle, Arenas gets a takedown, Gutierrez manages to get the reversal. Arenas gets a reversal of her own to 3 near fall then the fall to put herself in the finals. Arenas faces off against Norez of Montwood in the finals, Norez wastes no time getting a takedown on Arenas. Areanas gets a reversal and 3 near fall before the period ends. In the 2nd period Arenas chooses top and after several tries for a fall she finally finds the one that works and gets the fall over Norez…
