The 6A Girls Road to State

By:Ray Shoaf

We try our hand at the 6A women of who’s who and some insight for those who don’t follow outside their region.  With the girls only having 10 weight classes it doesn’t take as many state placers to win the team state title as we’ve seen in the past with 4 to 5 state placers so it is still anybodies chance to win here.  this was all done by using the current rankings.

Olivia Mottley @ CFISD

95

The region 1 girls have the most credentials with #3 Mia Diaz of Amarillo Tascosa a returning state 3rd place finisher and state qualifier and #4 Annabelle Garcia of Keller Central a 5th place finisher and #5 Chalimarys Rodriguez of Keller Timber Creek a returning qualifier. #2 Moe Cruz of Klein Cain is a 6th place finisher rounding out the returning state placers from region 2.  There are only 3 returning qualifiers in the group as well. With newcomer Olivia DeGeorgio of College Park the #1 girl by beating Cruz at CFISD who was #1 at that time.

Region I Diaz of Tascosa is the headliner here but Garcia and Rodriguez could change that.  These 3 ladies have better credentials then the whole 95lb group but was voted below Cruz and newcomer DeGeorgio.  Coaches must know sometime I don’t, but either way these girls will be out to prove people wrong.

Region II. #1 Olivia DeGeorgia of College Park looks to prove why she is #1 and will have to do so through districts and regionals as #2 Moe Cruz of Klein Cain resides in her district as well.  #6 Trinity Zapata of Coppell is one of the returning state qualifiers and very well could be in the mix along with 4 other top 20 ranked women in this region, 3 are freshman. Martin of Allen, Williams of Oak Ridge, and Gonzales of Harker Heights.

Region III Rachel Cotter of Morton Ranch the #10 ranked wrestler here looks primed to come out of this region on top.  #12 Daniella Jimenez of Cyp Woods, #16 Adelaide Martinsen of Seven Lakes, #17 Mikaela Gutierrez of Morton Ranch, and Victoria Pena of Tompkins will be wrestling to get to the next level.

Region IV 4 wrestlers are tightly grouped here in this region with #7 Monica Resendez of Donna North, #8 Avengelyne Valadez of Cibolo Steele, #9 Ashlee Messer of San Antonio Johnson, and #11 Brenda Moreno of La Joya.  Resendez and Messer are the seniors here but Valadez is the lone returning state qualifier.  Any of the 4 of this ladies could win this region.

This weight has 11 returning state qualifiers, some aren’t even ranked in the top 20 to go along with the 5 returning state placers.  This weight will heat up quickly.

Region I Starts off with a bang as 7 women are ranked in the top 13.  #2 Carlie Allred of Trinity has climbed the leader board in the last month and is followed by #3 Kadee Kelley of Weatherford.  #6 Chalimar Rodriguez of Timber Creek and #7 Arianna Rodriguez of South Grand Prairie round out the top 4.

Region II #4 Mia Arceneaux of Rockwall was last years 3rd place finisher and #5 Ashley Morris of Klein Collins was the 4th place finisher at this weigh.  After this you have 3 more Klein girls in the top including #20 Cora Sek of Klein who placed 5th last year at state.

Region III #1 Brittany Cotter of Morton Ranch the returning state runner up from 95 owns this region and the weight.  #9 Zhivanna Magdaleno of Clear Springs,  #10 Isabella Walsh of Cinco Ranch, and #11 Endygo Scott of Cy Park the final state placer of this weight at 6th place.

Region IV Only has 2 ranked wrestlers in this region but they are both returning state qualifiers.  #14 Addison Garcia of San Antonio Reagan and #18 Jocelyn Lass of Austin Westlake.  This leaves room for newcomers to make their way to the big dance.

This weight has “2” 2x state placers.  State champ and state runner up #1 Samara Chavez of Arlington Martin and State Champ and 3rd place finisher #2 Amanda McAleavey of Cypress Creek.  Followed by 3x state qualifier and 3rd place finisher last year #3 Carmin Allred of Trinity.  #11 Nayeli Hernandez of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo placed 6th last year as well.

Region I Has 7 women fighting to get out of this region.  Chavez and Allred should be a given but from there #6 Aja Pearson of Haltom City a state qualifier and #8 Karla Garcia of El Paso Montwood are top 10 wrestlers as well. #15 Kaycie Tanimoto a move in this year for Keller Central has been making big moves as of late.

Region II #4 Alexis Hanks of Killeen Ellison is an up and coming freshman that’s been working here way up the leader board.  #5 Jennifer Thomas of Bryan a 2x state qualifier will be on the podium as well at regionals.  #10 Isabella DeGeorgio of College Park is a state alternate and the Spjut coaching tandom has been rocking lately so expect DeGeorgio to make the trip.

Region III Is all McAleavey the returning state champ.  Everyone else will be fighting for 2nd place.  #9 Triston Barton of Friendswood Clear Brook,  #13 Sydney Paniagua-Aguirre of Cyp Fair, and #17 Kiara Ortega of Katy a state qualifier.

Region IV #7 Crystal Venegas of San Antonio Lee is the favorite here even over 6th state placer #11 Nayeli Hernandez of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo.  Freshman #12 Mikayla Herber of San Antonio Johnson has been making her presence known on the mat.  #14 Elena Moreno of Austin Bowie rounds out the top 4 ranked wrestlers here.

#1 Camille Fournier of Weatherford is a 3x finalist and 2x state champ.  This weight is the weakest weight as far as returning state placers simply because Fournier is the only returning state placer here.  Everyone must be going higher or lower in weight. Never the less everyone else will be wrestling for 2nd here.

Region I This is the region that Fournier resides in and there is only 2 other ra kid wrestlers in this region. #8 Lexys Basurto of El Paso Franklin and #12 Bayley Trang of Southlake Carroll.

Region II Has #3 Jayden Bazemore of College Park who has been climbing the ranks.  #11 Elizabeth Duvall of Rockwall, #13 Cece Adams of Prosper, and #14 Neftali Villegas of Oak Ridge round out the top 4 wrestlers.

Region III #5 Lilly Broadwick of Katy Tompkins, #6 Macayla Potter of Cyp Ranch, and #18 Blanca Cuevas of Cyp Fair are the only 3 at this weight and region ranked.  Potter is a returning state qualifier.

Region IV Has 9 ranked wrestlers in this region so its safe to say someone will not make the big dance.  The top ranked women is #2 Destiny Quiroz of San Benito followed by #4 Teresa Solis of PSJA, #7 Sophia Rivera of Austin Akins, and #9 Dakota Drew of San Antonio MacArthur whom all 3 are returning state qualifiers.

This weight has 6 state placers and 5 state qualifiers here.  Try to follow along here. #2 Devin Patton of Plano West a 4th place state finisher has beaten all the top 6 here except #1 Gianna Moreno of San Marcos who she hasn’t seen yet this season.  Patton hasn’t seen #5 Jessica Crane of Arlington Martin either since Crane defeated her for 3rd place at state last year. But has beaten #4 Sydney Harper of Trinity whom has beaten Crane this year. #3 Olivia Mottley of Cyp-Ranch a 5th place state finisher lost to Patton at CFISD as well as #6 Juliana Baugher of Prosper the 4th place state finisher. Moreno is the returning 3rd place state finisher. Patton is a 2x state 4th place finisher, Mottley is a 2x state placer 3rd, and 5th. Harper is a state qualifier and Fargo AA, Crane is a State Champ and 3x state placer 6th and 3rd.  Baugher is a returning 4th place state finisher and qualifier.   #7 Josephine Igengbai of Ft Worth Paschal is a 2x returning state qualifier. Lastly #10 Kailyn Clay of Grand Prairie is joins Crane as a 3x state placer 5th, 5th, and 6th.  How is that for a loaded 128 pound weight.  Its very possible that a state placer won’t make the podium this year.

Region I Has 9 ranked wrestlers and we already went through the top 6 ranked state placers,  luckly only 2 of them are in this region so it leaves room for more to join the chaos.  #8 Hailey Tucker of Haltom City and #9 Sandra Frausto of Arlington Houston are next in line.

Region II Has Patton and Baugher so 2 more will enter through this region.

Region III Has 7 ranked wrestlers with Mottley leading the pack here. Next up is #11 Maryellen Grace Lafferty of Cyp Creek, #12 Danielle Miller of Seven Lakes, #13 Annika Gotlieb of Langham Creek, and 3 more.

Region IV Only has Moreno and #18 Stephanie Garza of Edinburg North. Obviously there is room for 2 more.

This weight is home to #1 Lexie Basham 2x state champ of Northwest Nelson and #2 Jordan Suarez 2x state runner up of Morton Ranch.  Like the 119 weight with Fournier these 2 are the only returning state placers and really no one can come close to beating this 2 except each other.   there are 7 other state qualifiers here though.

Region I we start with Basham as the favorite here.  Next in line is #9 Kelli Hernandez of El Paso Franklin and #10 Saleen Doblado of El Paso Montwood.  4 others will be fighting for the last spot.

Region II We have #3 Taylor Martinez of Prosper who was a state qualifier last year then #4 Abigail Denney of Oak Ridge another state qualifier.  From there we jump to #11 Desire Campos of Bryan and  #12 Angie Archuleta of Rockwall-Heath along with Emma Gresham of Rockwall.

Region III is the home of Jordan Suarez so #6 Krista Garcia of Seven Lakes and #7 Arianna Rincon of Cyp Park will work for an upset.  #13 Marissa Cano of Killeen Ellison will round out the top 4 at this region.

Region IV #5 Isabella Ruiz of Comal Smithson Valley is a returning 2x state qualifier with her latest win over Padilla.  #6 Mia Padilla of San Antonio Madison a returning state qualifier has had a solid season. Padilla has a loss to Martinez and Suarez but won’t see them till state.  Padilla other loss is to #14 Grace Richter of Cibolo Steel earlier in the season and since Padilla has avenged this loss.  Any of the 3 could come out on top.

Here the cream has all risen to the top.  The top 2 women are returning state placers followed by 8 state qualifiers and 1 more state placer.  #1 Brooke Massaviol of Coppell has held #1 all year with #2 Nia Miranda of Cypress Ranch in 2nd.  Miranda didn’t wrestle in state last year but the year before was state runner up and this past summer was Fargo All
American placing 3rd in the girls junior division.  However Massaviol did get the win over Miranda at the Chicken Wing tournament this past month in a 6-5 decision helping leave no doubt to her #1 status.

Region I #8 Joylynn Wegman of Keller Timber Creek is the favorite here to come out of regionals on top, a returning state qualifier. Only 2 other women ranked in the top 20 with #18 Taylor Proffitt of El Paso Franklin and #20 Hannah Vos of Northwest Nelson leaving wiggle room for someone to fill the #4 vacancy in this region.

Region II Is the home of Massaviol.  #4 Leilani Hernandez has been coming on strong. Hernandez started the year at 165 and has been gaining momentum a state qualifier herself.  Should be a great finals battle between Massaviol and Hernandez however #10 Jason Foster another state qualifier would like a rematch am sure of Hernandez whom she lost too a couple weeks ago at the Panther Classic. #13 Bailey Pratt of Oak Ridge rounds out the top 4 girls here.  Pratt a state alternate.

Region III Heats up here a bit with #2 Nia Miranda having to deal with #3 Mary Kate Cooper of Katy Taylor, #7 Alexandra Cisneros of Bridgeland, and #9 Brianna Fischle of Cyp Lakes all returning state qualifiers.   Freshman #14 Mia Cayard of Clear Lake has been climbing the ranks as of late and senior Lauren Collins of Katy Tompkins round out region 3.

Region IV Has #5 Nancy Saldana of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo a senior and 2x state qualifier but her last tournament she wrestled at 138 so the updated ranking will probably have her dropped from this weight.  which leaves more room for #6 Sage Becca of Comal Smithson Valley the reigning regional champ to repeat.  #11 Jillian Wold of Comal Canyon, #11 Hailey Brownell of Cibolo Steele, #17 Alexa Anderson of McAllen, and #19 Natalie Rosas of La Joya round out the top region 4 women.

#4 Haven Hong of Keller is the only returning state placer here, placing 4th last season along with only 5 other state qualifiers.  #1 Kassandra Lindermann of El Paso Americas don’t show much on the track wrestling records but what does show back in December Lindermann has back it up by her quality wins.

Region I Has both of the above mentioned Hong and Lindermann in this group.  #5 Haley Wilcox of Euless Trinity, #9 Amaiya Reynolds of Arlington Lamar, and #10 Lianna Gomez of Haltom City round out the top 10 ranked girls in this region.

Region II Is a weaker region with only 3 ranked women here leaving room for newcomers.  #6 Marisol Lopez leads the way here a state qualifier from last year with #14 Isabel Villereal of Cedar Ridge, and #18 Tess Cleary of Klein Cain.

Region III Ramps back up with the #2 Kaitlyn Bryant of Katy Tompkins and #3 Fahydat Bello of Cyp Park at the top of the list.  #12 Corlyn Davis of Cyp Fair and #13 Camryn Tresler of Clear Falls make for the top 4 girls here.

Region IV #7 Symphanie Sampson of Cibolo Steele is a returning state qualifier here. #11 Alexia Sandoval of Mission, #15 Naydellyn Conde of Edinburg North, and #16 Caroline Gonzalez of San Antonio Madison will be in contention as well.

This weight is led by 2x state placer and Fargo AA #1 Brittyn Corbishly of College Park followed by #2 Daniella Seely of Haltom City a 3x state qualifier and 5th place finisher last year and #3 Lessly Sandoval of Conroe a 2x state qualifier and 6th place finisher last year.

Region I #2 Seely is the one to beat here and am sure #4 Arista Najera of El Paso Montwood would be pleased to do so. but Kaylynn Green of Weatherford a 2x state qualifier as Najera is as well would like that chance as well.  #18 Alana Michelson of El Paso Franklin is in the mix as well.

Region II Is Corbishley land however she does have competition in #3 Sandoval and #7 Ayanna Bess of Killeen Ellison followed by #13 Alexandra Ransom of Coppell.

Region III Heats up a bit with 6 contenders here starting with #5 Nicole Blinn of Katy Tompkins  a state qualifier followed by #8 Natasha Ramirez of Cy Park.  #11 Kinsley Staggs of Langham Creek comes in next ordered followed by #14 Ana Mariela Moreno of Cy Lakes another returning state qualifier.

Here we have Hannah Francis of Coppell as the #1 girl with 2x state placer Traeh Haynes of Cibolo Steele  placing 2nd last year and 3rd in 2018 coming in 2nd.  Thinking Francis was voted higher due to her being a Fargo 5th place finisher this past summer.  Francis and Haynes have no H2H, both are undefeated and #4 Valerie Ramos of Killeen Ellison is the only common opponent which both have beaten.

Region I Has 7 of the top ranked women in the weight with #6,7,8 & 9 all together.  Only #3 Katelyn Allen of Lewisville  has separated from the pack albeit not by much Allen didn’t make the big show last season but was a 2x state qualifier the previous 2 seasons.  #6 is Brianna Allen-Thompson of Northwest Nelson, #7 Daya Powell of Timber Creek is a 2x state qualifier and 2nd  place finisher last year. Powell has been out for awhile but should be back for districts.  #8 April Vera of Haltom City and #9 Amirah Wooden of Hurst Bell both sophomores looking to get to the next level.  #10 Ariana Miles of Arlington Lamar placed 5th last year and is a 2x state qualifier.

Region II is Hannah Francis country but #4 Valerie Ramos of Killeen Ellison would like to change that. both are state qualifiers.  #11 Amber Latta of Oak Ridge however is the returning 6th place finisher here.  #17,18, & 19 ranked women follow in order Maria Rameriz of Klein Cain, Emily Lozano of Klein Collins, and McKenzie Hughes of Temple.

Region III #5 Callie Youngblood of Bridgeland is a returning state qualifier here and so is #15 Ashley Tapp of Morton Ranch but #12 Melanie Oyervides of Cy ridge and #13 Rewa Chibado of Mayde Creek will try to join the state qualifiers.

Region IV is Traeh Haynes region and only a couple other ranked girls here so Haynes should have no trouble getting back to the big dance.  #14 Kaleigha Eskridge of San Antonio Madison and #16 Victoria Morales of San Antonio Churchill  whom both have been to state before and both seniors look to make it again.
