The 6A Boys State Champ Contenders

We go through each weight of the 6A boys and give a break down on the top contenders based off the rankings that have been made throughout the year.  Allen Wrestling will seek its 10th  straight UIL State Team Championship.  Arlington Martin and Katy should give them a run for the money.

106

With Braxton Brown of Allen moving up to 113 it made room for freshman Cade Moore, who has not lost in the state this season and has climbed to the #2 spot behind #1 Arlington Martin’s Donovan Whitted who also hasn’t lost to any Texas wrestler this season.  Both wrestlers are on opposite sides of the bracket so it looks to be a Whitted/Moore finals.  Moore will have to go through #3 Carson Laughery of Lake Travis and Whitted will have to go through #4 Cole Minnick of Katy Tompkins.  Other contenders are #5 Wyatt Maturin of Conroe and #6 Xavier Harrell of Cypress Ranch.

113

#1 Braxton Brown of Allen, who’s only loses are to the #1 and #4 ranked national wrestlers this year, will have to go potentially through on the bottom side of the bracket with #5 Christian Martinez of El Paso Franklin in the quarter finals before reaching #2 Jackson Crandall of Katy in the semi finals and #3 Christian Lopez of Houston Westside in the finals to give him his 2nd State Championship.  #4 Kalen Napier of Weatherford and #6 Zach Flowers of Rockwall will look to upset Lopez on the top side of the bracket.

120

This weight will get crazy right from the start.  #1 Dominic Chavez of Arlington Martin, who was out a whole month with injury, looked to be back to his national ranking status winning Region 1 and will face off with Remy Jacobs of Vandegrift his very first match. #4 John Geiger of Leander, coming off an impressive region 2 championship beating #7 Gabe Martinez of Allen and #5 Cade Morgan of Plano West could face Chavez in the semi finals on the top side of the bracket.  #2 Isaiah Calderon of Cypress Falls on the bottom side of the bracket will have to go through Morgan and #3 Mason Woodward of Weatherford, who Calderon beat at CFISD early last month .  #10 Gabriel Gamez of San Antonio MacArthur the region 4 winner could be the dark horse to upset everyone in the bottom bracket.

126

This weight has #2 Parker Decker of Keller, who has won everything but a state title.  Decker is on the top side of the bracket and take your pick of whom he will wrestle, as all 7 wrestlers are pretty much evenly match with John Richardson of Prosper, Edward Mendoza of San Antonio Madison, Noah Yeamans of Allen, and Brendon Diaz of Katy all top 10 contenders.  On the bottom side  is the returning state champ at 120 #1 ranked Noah Gochberg of Vandegrift who in the quarter finals could have the #3 ranked wrestler Luke Garcia of Arlington Martin who Parker beat in the region 1 finals.  Take you pick who will meet in the semi finals here as well.. with Donovan Fisher of Churchill, Corey Camden of College Park, Kobe Nelms of Franklin and Daniel Contreras of Cypress Fair who are all 4 top 10 ranked.

132

#1 Tagen Jamison a move in this year to Plano West from Oklahoma has only 1 defeat this season and that is to 5A #1 Heath Roth of Arygle, who only has one loss in his career.  Jamison will only have 3 top 10 wrestlers to contend with till the semi finals where he could get #5 Jayden Two Lance of Arlington Martin who has quietly kept winning in Texas,  all of Two Lances brothers’ losses are from Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, none from Texas.  This all happens on the top side of their bracket.  On the bottom side is murderers row with #2 Jordan Strmiska of Lake Travis, who has made the finals twice and came up short both times  hoping the 3rd time is a charm but has 6 of the 7 other wrestlers ranked top 12 in the state to go through.

138

The top side of the bracket has #2 Preston Decker of Keller and #4 Jacob Aragon of Plano West, who’s only losses this year is to Trent Dooley.  #3 Daniel Hernandez of Westside has already dropped a match to Decker earlier in the season but will have to possibly get by a #5 ranked Eric Westbrook of Killeen.  #1 Trent Dooley of Allen will be going for his 2nd consecutive state championship.  Dooley’s 2 loses this year were at the ironman tournament by top 10 nationally ranked wrestlers.  Dooley could run into #7 Jesse Diaz of Tascosa in the quarter finals. Diaz lost by 1pt against Decker in the Region 1 finals. Then #5 Roberto Silva from Edinburg Vela could meet Dooley in the semi finals if he can get by #8 Hector Carbajal of Franklin who only dropped to Diaz 4-2 in their regional.

145

#4 Kaleb Jewett of El Paso Franklin had been holding the top spot at 145 all year until last week at regionals,  #3 Joshua Jimenez of Coronado got the win.  Jewett had the win at districts over Jimenez, for them to meet again will have to be in the finals match.  On the top side Jimenez will have to go through the #5 Josh Thomas of College Park, #8 Gabriel Palos of Cypress Ridge, #9 Austin Hartmangruber of San Antonio Lee (freshman with only 3 losses), and the #2 ranked wrestler Aaron Lofton of Vista Ridge to reach the finals match.  The new #1 Mario Danzi of Allen who carried the #1 @ 152 most of the season will be on the bottom side and will see a top 10 ranked wrestler potentially in the quarter finals #10 Oziel Trevino of McAllen Memorial, then the winner of Kaleb Jewett, #11 Petey Lazono of McAllen Rowe, #6 Carson Lipsey of Rockwall, and/or #7 Truman Timmons of Katy.

152

The new #1 Gunner Pierson of the Woodlands who beat Elise Brown-Ton of Allen at region 2 finals is on the top side and could face #3 Zach Carpenter of Arlington Martin in the semi finals.  They will have to each go through under-the-radar valley wrestlers #9 Marcos Islas of Edinburg and #11 Sergio Morales of La Joya Juarez-Lincoln.  On the bottom half Brown-Ton will have to go through undefeated #5 Brandon Huerta of San Antonio Reagan in the quarter finals before reaching #4 Jonathon Wertz of Cypress Lakes.

160

This weight will be the #1 Daniel Manibog of Katy show as the Oklahoma State signee chases his third straight state title. A potential semi final match-up against #2 Eric Two Lance of Arlington Martin may be the toughest test for Manibog.  Having said that, the rest of the 8 wrestlers on  the top side of the bracket are pretty evenly matched.  #3 Joesph Fuentes is the highest ranked wrestler on the top side.

170

New #1 Sam Mora of Tascosa headlines this weight, Mora is a 2x state finalist looking for his first state championship.  Mora will be on the bottom side of the bracket and will have to get through #5 Brian Pollard of Plano West, another Oklahoma move-in to Plano, who lost in the final seconds to #3 Eli Sheeran of Klein in the region 2 finals; then #6 Michael Solis of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, who won region 4.  On the top side, it could be a rematch of Sheeran and #2 KiShawn Higgins of Katy in the semi finals but Sheeran will have to get through the winner of #7 Alexander Silva of La Joya Juarez-Lincoln vs #4 Tristan Tadeo of Arlington Martin in the quarter finals and Higgins will have to get through #12 Adelmo Alvarado of Churchill vs #9 Cameron Bye of Trinity winner.

182

Storyline here is #1 Adam Kilgore of Arlington Bowie defeating the state champ now #2 Tereus Henry of El Paso Montwood.  Kilgore had been unseen all season until districts.  This should make a #3  Nate Dooley of Allen and Kilgore semi final assuming they get through to the semi’s. The Regional winners on the top side #8 Caleb Mendez of Langham Creek and #5 Devin Jimenez of San Antonio Madison will have a tough route as Mendez will have to get through #4 JaMarcus Thomas of Bryan, who placed 3rd in state last year and Jimenez will have to go through returning state champ Henry.

195

Last year’s state placers #8 David Powers of El Paso Franklin (4th), #4 Nathan Alvarez of San Antonio Roosevelt (5th) and #3 Jarrod Camacho of Cypress Ranch (6th) all look to return to the podium but aren’t the top ranked wrestlers this season, That goes to #1 Colin Clark of Klein and #2 Chris Colfield of Houston Westside who upset #3 Camacho in the Region 3 finals. Clark wouldn’t see Alvarez or Camacho until the semi finals on the bottom side of the bracket as Camacho and Alvarez should meet in the quarters.  Colfield vs Powers semi final match will only happen if they can get through a pretty evenly match group on the top side.

220

New #1 Isiah Brown of Killeen Ellison, who beat the former #1 and returning state champ Sean Delmonte of Rockwall in the Region 2 finals, will be on the top side of the bracket and Delmonte will be in the bottom side of the bracket.  All the wrestlers are evenly matched here as well and it could be anyone in the semi finals facing Brown or Delmonte, if they make it, other regional champs will have a say in that.  #6 Jacob Ackerman of Friendswood Clear Brook, #5 Joel Valencia of San Antonio Madison and #10 Prasad Dalvi of El Paso Coronado.

285

This will be an interesting weight class.  We got 3 returning state placers in #2 Johnny Green of Allen (2nd), #3 George Marsh of New Braunfels (4th), and #5 Dominque Varela of El Paso Coronado.  But its #1 Grant Bordelon of Houston Strake Jesuit who has defeated Green and is currently undefeated that leads the pack. Marsh and Bordelon are on the top side of the bracket and Varela and Green are on the bottom side of the bracket.
