Texas Prep State Wrestling Championships

On Saturday, February 4, 2017, the Prep State tournament was held at McKinney Christian Academy. This an annual tournament which combines schools from TAPPS and the SPC Conference and serves as the qualifier for Prep Nationals. In a reversal of the results at Prep State Duals, St. John’s of Houston used its depth to win the tournament (170 points) and defeat rival Bishop Lynch (146 points). All Saints Episcopal won a close battle for third place (128 points).

Teams 3-8 were separated by only 20 points, which indicates the degree of parity in the league. The top 3 in each weight class earn the right to move on Prep Nationals, which will feature many nationally ranked wrestlers and takes place at Lehigh University on February 23-25. Bishop Lynch will be sending the most wrestlers (6) to that tournament.

Noah Chan of Kinkaid (Jr), 32-0, winner at 152 lbs, was named MOW of the tournament. Chan defeated Will Harrell of MCA in the final 13-2.
