CYPRESS — Eight No. 1 seeds have made the Class 5A girls’ finals, while there will be four different finals pitting the No. 1 vs. No. 2-ranked wrestlers.
The team race saw Justin Northwest take the lead again and the Texans are up by 16 points going into the consolation semifinals. Day one leader El Paso Hanks has fallen to third, passed by Burleson Centennial, which has two in the finals.
Northwest also has two in the finals.
In 6A, there are eight No. 1 seeds in the finals but there were plenty of upsets along the way. There will be three No. 1 vs. No. 2 finals and they are consecutive – 126, 132 and 138.
Prosper Rock Hill fell from No. 1 to No. 5 in the team standings. El Paso Eastwood won two of three semifinal matches and vaulted into first place with an 8 ½ point lead over South Grand Prairie. Defending state champion Allen is in sixth place but two of the three semifinalists lost.
