Woodland College Park Lindsey Spout is guiding Team Texas this week at the Junior Nationals in Tulsa.
Assisted by Martin Strmiska, Lexie Basham and Samara Chavez, the roster is full of UIL state champions or finalists on the two teams — Red and Gold.
There are wrestlers from West Texas, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and a few in between.
“I get to meet different people and meet more people,” said Ariana Chavez, a 5A state champion from Borger — near the pandhalde of Oklahoma. “It’s the best practice I’ve had all year.”
The Borger standout made a 7-hour trip from extreme Northwest Texas to Fort Worth to train this past week at Spartan Mart Club.
Her practice partner this week was Lubbock Cooper’s Kayla McLearen — which was also in the 5A finals in February at 235 pounds.
Chavez punched her ticket to the state team by winning the Greco-Roman and freestyle brackets at the Texas USA Wrestling finals in May.
Last year at Junior Nationals she went 7-1 and earned All-American honors…
