Team Texas Cadets heads To The Cadet Duals

Team Texas Cadets are in York Pennsylvania for the Cadet Duals Championships.  Texas took 24 Cadets and will be in Pool A for the Greco Duals that start at 9:00am EST.  Freestyle Duals will start on Friday at 9:00am.     Allen head Coach Jerry Best and NB Elite head Coach Troy Jewel will be coaching the Team.  Texas will only have one Cadet team this year.

The Team left Tuesday morning very early and got their weight ins this afternoon,

Coach Jewel had this to say.

Outstanding camp for this Cadet dual team this year ! The facility at Allen H.S. was top notch and more then accommodating . Big thanks to many of the Eagle first team wrestlers for coming in and working with these young cadets . Also to Oliver Pierce and coach Bernstein for taking time to come in and help out , it was very much appreciated.  And of course a big thanks to coach Best for getting us hooked up with it all .

The camp in general ran very smoothly , focusing on many basics the first day and cleaning up technique . The intensity level was high from the get go as they were pushed hard from the start . The room was good and warm , helping with the weight. All making for a good first day of camp .

Day two they came in pretty sore and tight . We made sure they warmed up well and stretched extensively . Then it was right back to their regular drilling , focusing on speed and timing . All followed up with a little bit of new technique . It was a good time to show it ,  as they were starting to feel the fatigue of the lengthy practices . It gave them something to take their minds off of it and maybe refreshed them some . Then it was right back to counter offense drills and going live from positions .

The last practice was Greco and coach Best and myself covered much of the spectrum . From their ties , attacks , throws , Turns , to their defense . After some lengthy live wrestling  , we wrapped up with some extensive cardio getting the rest of the weight off and the endurance up .

All in all the entire camp was spot on and extremely effective for its purpose . In my opinion they are as tuned up and crisp as they could possibly get in two days.

These cadets are very young but seem to be meshing well . I personally was impressed with the over all character of the team . They showed great work ethic and try through out .

Coach Best and myself very much looking forward to watching these young cadets battle and represent Texas this week?

Huge thanks to coach Smith for helping us get checked in for the flight and with overall organization .
