Sharyland Rattlers Secure Double Victory: District Champions and Duals Champions

In the District 16-5A Boys Wrestling Tournament at Valley View High School, the wrestling matches unfolded with an air of intensity, spotlighting the remarkable skills and unwavering determination of the participating athletes. Throughout the tournament, fierce competition unfolded across multiple weight classes, each bout a testament to the dedication and prowess of these young wrestlers. From the lightest to the heaviest divisions—106 to 285—the battles were fierce, promising a showcase of athleticism, strategy, and tenacity. As the matches progressed, Valley View High School bore witness to a wrestling spectacle that would leave a lasting impression on both participants and spectators alike.

106 Weight Class: 

In the 106 weight class, Juan Velasquez of Rio Grande City Grulla emerged as the champion, securing the 1st place with a decisive victory over Christian Aguirre from Mission Sharyland Pioneer. The match ended with a score of 15-8 in favor of Velasquez. Angel Alaniz of La Joya Juarez-Lincoln claimed the 3rd place by defeating James Perez of Vanguard Academy Rembrandt-Pharr with a score of 9-3. Santiago Miranda of Mission Sharyland secured the 5th place by pinning AJ Marez of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial in 3 minutes and 54 seconds. 

113 Weight Class: 

Aiden Baker of Mission Sharyland dominated the 113 weight class, earning the 1st place with a victory over Kristoff Vazquez from Vanguard Academy Rembrandt-Pharr, ending the match with a pin in 5 minutes and 14 seconds. Roel Molar of Mission Sharyland Pioneer secured the 3rd place by defeating Josue Resendez of Rio Grande City Grulla with a score of 13-7. Juan Molina of Roma clinched the 5th place by overcoming Pablo Jimenez of La Joya Palmview in a thrilling sudden victory round, ending with a score of 4-2. 

120 Weight Class: 

Luis Nieto of Vanguard Academy Rembrandt-Pharr claimed the top spot in the 120 weight class, securing the 1st place by defeating Sebastian Contreras of Mission Sharyland Pioneer with a score of 8-5. Matthew

Castillo of Mission Sharyland earned the 3rd place by pinning Nelson Mendoza of McAllen Rowe in just 1 minute and 37 seconds. The 5th place went to Julio Cabrera of Roma, who triumphed over Justice Gutierrez of Rio Grande City with a score of 10-5. 

126 Weight Class:
