Region 3 Boys Wrestling Recap

Leonard Merrell Center Katy, Texas

It’s a big day at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The Region 3 semifinals and finals will determine who will be the chosen 4 in each weight class to advance to next Week’s UIL State Championship. 56 boys and 48 girls will make their way to the Berry Center to take on the other 168 boys and 144 girls from Regions 1, 2, and 4.

Let’s dive into Saturday’s finals action.

Occurring simultaneously was the Boy’s 106 finals and the Girls’ 100 lb finals.

The boy’s match featured 1st seed Santiago Ramirez of Westside HS vs. 2nd seed Richie Walsh of Cinco Ranch HS. Ramirez scored first, but Walsh followed with 3 of his own to go into the second up 3-2. Walsh moved it up one more point with an escape in the 2nd, but Ramirez scored a takedown at the end of the period to knot the score at 4-4. Ramirez escaped after only 7 seconds in the third and held on to finish the match at 5-4 in his favor.
