How Did the Previously Undefeated Girls and Returning State Champions do at State?

This season, there were fifteen undefeated girls going into the state tournament. Out of those fifteen, eight of them remain undefeated. Congratulations to all that placed, and good job to everyone that competed in the state tournament!

At 95 pounds, Mia Diaz from Amarillo Tascosa had her first loss of the season in the finals against Olivia DeGeorgio from College Park. The match ended with DeGeorgio majoring Diaz.
At 102 pounds, Amanda McAleavey from Cypress Creek is this year’s state champion! She remained undefeated this entire year, winning her last match by decision. McAleavey is now also a multiple time state champion, winning the past two years.
At 110 pounds, Samara Chavez from Arlington Martin is not only undefeated, but she is also a multiple time state champion. She beat Carmen Allred from Euless Trinity in the finals to secure her status. Chavez wrestled tough in the state tournament, winning her first match by fall, and pinning her way through the rest until the finals, where she beat Allred 7-0.
At 119 pounds, there is Camile Fournier from Weatherford. Fournier has won the state tournament for the past three years, which is absolutely incredible. She also went undefeated this season, having a final record of 41-0.
At 128 pounds, there are two girls that went into the state tournament undefeated. Devin Patton from Plano West went into the state tournament with a record of 37-0, while Gianna Moreno from San Marcos went into the state tournament with a record of 38-0. Moreno suffered her first loss of the season in the semifinals to Illyauna Martinez of Katy Mayde Creek. Moreno came back though, and took third in the tournament. Patton remained undefeated this season, winning her first ever state championship! She won her finals match by pin in the first period.
At 138 pounds, Lexi Basham from Northwest Nelson was defeated by Jordan Suarez from Katy Morton Ranch in the semifinals of the state tournament. This match was Basham’s first loss of the season. It also took away her chance of being a three time state champion. Basham did make a comeback, taking third in the tournament.
At 165 pounds, Kaitlyn Bryant from Katy Tompkins entered and left the state tournament undefeated! Bryan won her first state championship this year, and is looking to repeat this feat next year.
At 185 pounds, Brittyn Corbishley from College Park went into the state tournament with a record of 38-0, and left with a record of 42-0. Corbishley was very successful in defending her undefeated status. She also pinned her way through the entire tournament, showing everyone that she is not a force to be reckoned with!
At 215 pounds, Traeh Haynes from Cibolo Steele and Hannah Francis from Coppel both entered the state tournament undefeated. The girls battled in the semifinals of the tournament, resulting in Francis’s first loss of the season. Haynes remained undefeated, and went on to take first, while Francis fought her way back for third place.

At 102 pounds, Jasmine Howard from Azle went into the state tournament looking to be a two time state champion. However, this dream was cut short when Howard suffered a loss to Odelia Lopez from Corpus Christi Ray. Howard did not end up placing this year, but will surely be looking to be on the top of the podium next year.
At 110 pounds, Cassidy King from Cedar Park was undefeated with a record of 42-0. Her perfect record did not last, and she lost to Victoria Nunez from El Paso Hanks in the quarters.
At 138 pounds, Mea Mohler from Leander Glenn was undefeated until she caught Maddie Sandquist from Humble Kingwood Park in the finals. The match was close, ending with a score of 2-1. Ending a senior season with a record of 38-1, and a second place title is not a bad way to go in the slightest.
At 165 pounds, Destiny Miles from Dallas Kimble entered the state tournament with the goal of being a multiple time state champion. Miles went from not placing her freshman and sophomore year, to dominating the state tournament for two years in a row!
At 185 pounds, Zoe Hankins from El Paso Parkland went undefeated this entire season, and won her first ever state championship. Hankins wrestled tough, and pinned her way to the finals, where she won her last match with a five point lead.
At 215 pounds, Samyra Thomas from Houston Kashmere was undefeated until the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Thomas wrestled back, and ended up taking sixth. She is only a sophomore, and I am looking forward to seeing her place in the next two seasons!
