Pioneers have strong first day at SAC/KCAC Men’s Wrestling Championships

McPHERSON, Kan. – Wayland Baptist’s Johnathon Ortegon and Seth Dixon will wrestle in the finals while eight other Pioneers are still in the running for third place after the first day of the Sooner Athletic Conference/Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Wrestling Championships here Friday.

Ortegon, wrestling at 125 pounds where he’s ranked 14^th in the NAIA, won his quarterfinal match by tech fall and his semifinal match by fall, while Dixon, at 165, won in the quarters by fall and in the semis by decision.

Of the dozen WBU wrestlers competing, all but two are still alive.

Action resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday inside the Ed Pyle Sports Complex on the campus of Central Christian College. The championship finals are set for 4 p.m. Saturday.

Bids to the NAIA Championships, set for March 5 and 6 in Park City, Kan., will be allocated based on a conference’s percentage of all-Americans and national qualifiers over the last three years.
