Year after year, season after season, this is one of the most anticipated duals in Texas. Most definitely in UIL Region 1. From the very first tournament of the year, to the very last match at the state tournament, all eyes are on these two teams.
They have been competing head to head, nose to nose, takedown to takedown since wrestling became popular in the Panhandle. Both teams have had great success in the state competition, both are respected by all, and feared by most. Randall with one of the most, if not the most successful head coaches in the Panhandle.
Coach Quirino has had a stellar career at Randall High School, leading his teams to the top year after year, season after season. Dumas is going through a cultural change with the helm being taken by a new head coach. Coach King is too familiar with the competitiveness that goes on any time Dumas and Randall step on the mat.
Having started his career here in the Panhandle (coaching at Randall, Hereford and Paloduro), he understands the intensity these two teams bring. Especially when it’s a head to head competition. Dumas finished the 2021 season as 2nd place, coming in behind Texas UIL state champions Lucas Lovejoy. Randall finished the season in sixth place.
This year the Randall Raiders are ranked #4, and the Dumas Demons are ranked #5. Tonight was definitely a battle of the ranked and the soon to be ranked.
