Allen wrestling alum Bo Nickal made history this year at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships.

The former Eagle became one of four Penn State freshmen to reach the finals of the championship tournament in their first appearance, one of five Nittany Lions to do so as the program won its fifth title in six seasons on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Unfortunately, Nickal was unable to cap his season with a victory, losing to Ohio State’s Myles Martin, 11-9, in the 174-pound final.

The pair had matched up three previous times during the season and Nickal had taken all three, including a pin at the Big Ten Championships, but Martin got the better of the Allen alum in the fourth meeting.

Still, Nickal earned All-American status in his redshirt freshman season, ended the year with a 32-2 record and became the first former Eagle to reach the finals at the NCAA Championship.
