DI National Championships
Texas had 7 NCAA DI qualifiers, then lost one in 174lb Tyler Brennan of Little Rock due to some craziness.Ā 125-Troy Spratley wrestled his senior year at Plano West High School, wasnāt eligible for state, plus was hurt most of the season.Ā 133lbs Braxton Brown a 4x state champ for Allen High School. 133lbs Kade Moore a 2x state champ for Allen High School.Ā 133lbs Nasir Bailey wrestle 1 season during Covid for Arlington Martin High School and was a state champ.Ā 141lbs Tagen Jamison a 2x state champ for Plano West High School. AJ Ferrari a 2x state champ for Allen High School.

125lbs
#7 seed Troy Spratley of Oklahoma State University had #26 seed Keyveon Roller of University of Virginia his first match of the tournament. Spartley doesnāt give up a point on his 15-0 techfall win.
Spratley had #10 seed Stevo Poulin of Northern Colorado University in his 2nd match. Spratley with a reversal in the 2nd period and riding out the 3rd period gets the 2-1 win to advance to the quarter finals where he faced the #2 seed Matt Ramos of Purdue.
Spratley started things off with a takedown at the end of the 1st period. Ramos choose bottom in the 2nd period and got a reverse to make the score 3-2. Spratley gets an escape to make it 4-2 to end the 2nd. In the 3rd period Spratley chooses down and gets the escape to make it 5-2 and thatās how the match ended with Spratley advancing to the semifinals guaranteeing him an All American statis.
In the semifinals Spratley had the #3 seed Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech University. 1st period went 0-0 with neither wrestler scoring. In the 2nd period Spratley got choice and chose down. Spratley got the reversal 1 minute in and then gave up the escape to end the period 2-1. 3rd period Ventresca chose bottom and got the escape to tie the score to go into overtime. Spratley then got a takedown in overtime 2 with Ventresca getting the escape. They traded points in overtime 3 and Spratley pulls out the win 6-4 to advance to his first NCAA National finals where he will meet #4 seed Vincent Robinson of North Carolina State University.
Spratley in the finals went scoreless in the first period. Period 2 Robinson took bottom and scored the first point with an escape. Spratley did the same in the 3rd period, neither wrestler had any riding time built up. Into overtime they went with Robinson getting the first choice to go down and gets the escape with 4 seconds left to score another point. Spratley cant get the escape and has to settle for 2nd place.
133lbs
#9 seed Braxton Brown of Maryland University on the top side of the bracket to start with had #24 seed Kyle Burwick of North Dakota State University. Brown gets the narrow win by a 3-2 decision.
Brownās 2nd match in the round of 16 he faced off with #8 seed Braeden Davis of Penn State University. Brown gives up the first points with a takedown in the first period, then gets the escape. 2nd period Davis chooses down and gets an escape. Brown takes down in the 3rd period and with more than a minute left gets a reversal to make the score 4-3 Davis. Brown lets him up in hopes of getting a takedown but it doesnāt happen and Brown loses 5-3.
Brown in his 3rd match now needs 3 more wins to become an All American. Brown faced off with #10 seed Dylan Shawver of Rutgers
1st period nothing but hand fighting, in the 2nd period Shawver took the down position and got the escape and thatās how the period ended. In the 3rd period Brown takes down and gets the quick escape. They go into OT and Shawver gets the takedown to end Browns run for this year going 1-2 in the tournament.

#31 seed Kade Moore of Missouri University had the #2 seed Drake Ayala of Iowa in his first match of the Tournament. Ayala wins by techfall 21-5. This put Moore on the consolation side where he faced off with the #15 seed Anthony Noto of Lock Haven University.
Moore in his 2nd match, Noto gets the first take down and builds the riding time. Moore takes down in the second and riding time continues until Mooreās escape. The 3rd period Noto takes down and riding time goes down as well until Moore lets him escape at the 1-minute mark in hopes of getting a takedown. Noto gets the takedown to end Mooreās NCAA championship run.

#3 seed Nasir Bailey of Little Rock University had #30 seed Derrick Cardinal of South Dakota State University in his first match of the tournament. Bailey got the first points with a takedown early in the 1st period then gave up the escape. 2nd period Bailey chose bottom and gets the escape and another takedown building his lead to 7-1. In the 3rd period things almost got away from Bailey as he gave up a takedown and 4 points on stalling. Bailey gets the win 9-8 to advance to the next round.
#14 seed Zan Fugitt of Wisconsin was Baileyās next match. No points scored in the first period. Bailey chooses bottom in the 2nd period and gets the escape. 3rd period Fugitt chooses bottom and ties it up with an escape. Bailey gives up the take down in overtime to head to the consolation rounds.
Bailey had #29 seed Tyler Ferrara of Cornell in his first consolation match. Somehow Bailey scores an escape in the 1st period without giving up a takedown. Bailey goes bottom in the 2nd period and gets the quick escape to make 2-0. In the 3rd period Ferrara goes neutral. Bailey gives up a stalling point and thatās how the match ends 2-1 with Bailey advancing to another round.
Needing 2 more wins to become All American Bailey had #11 seed Evan Frost from Iowa State University. Bailey scores first with a takedown and gives up the escape and a stalling call to end the 1st period. Frost takes bottom in the 2nd period and gets the escape making it 3-2 Bailey to end the 2nd period. Bailey goes neutral in the 3rd period and gives up the takedown to end his tournament run going 2-2.

#7 seed Tagen Jamison of Oklahoma State University had #26 seed Eligh Riveria of Princeton University in his first match. First period goes with no points. In the 2nd period Jamison choice is bottom and he gets the escape and a takedown to end the 2nd period 4-0. In the 3rd period Riveria chooses down and gets an escape. Jamison has riding time locked up and he wins the match 5-1 to advance to the round of 16.
Jamison in his 2nd round against #10 seed CJ Composto of Pennsylvania University gets a take down in the first period and then chooses down in the 2nd and gets the escape. In the 3rd Composto choice is neutral and he gets the quick takedown and 3 nearfall points. Jamison loses his riding time and cant quite get the reversal to tie up the score. Jamison takes the 6-4 loss to head to the consolation side.
Jamison with 3 wins needed to All-American had #24 seed Jason Miranda of Stanford University in his 3rd match of the tournament. Jamison starts out in the first getting 2 takedowns giving up 1 escape. Jamison takes bottom in the 2nd period and gets the escape and another takedown. Miranda gets an escape. In the 3rd period Miranda chooses bottom and gets an escape, Jamison gets yet another takedown , Back points, then the fall to make it another round.
Jamisonās match 4 was against #15 seed Joseph Tagg of South Dakota State University. Jamison took control of this match early and continue throughtout to secure a techfall 17-2 with 4 takedowns and 1, 4 point nearfall to advance to his 5th match.
1 match away from All American. Jamison had #4 seed Josh Koderhandt of Navy. The first period went unscored. Jamison chose bottom in the 2nd period and got the quick escape to score the first points. Koderhandt got a stall call in the 2nd and Jamison match it in the 3rd. they go into overtime 1-1 and Jamison gives up the overtime takedown to end his tournament run going 3-2 losing in the blood round.

Tyler Brennan of Little Rock University was eliminated the day before the tournament started for basically having wrestled 5 Mac 12 championships which is against NCAA rules regardless of being told good to go at beginning of the season.

#3 seed AJ Ferrari of CSU Bakersfield University in his first match of the tournament had #30 seed Ian Bush of West Virginia University. In the first period Ferrari gets the takedown half way through the period and rides Bush the rest of the period. In the 2nd period Ferrari chooses down and gets the escape but loses his riding time. In the 3rd period Ferrari gets another takedown and builds the riding time back before letting Bush escape. And that how the match ends in a 8-1 decision. Ferrari advances to the next round.
Next up for Ferrari was #19 seed Andy Smith of Virginia Tech who had beatin the #14 seed in his first match. The first period was a lot of hand fighting and with 30 seconds left Ferrari gets in on a leg and with 10 seconds left in the first period he gets the takedown. 2nd period Ferrari takes the down position and gets a quick escape. Both wrestlers exchange takedown attempts with neither one achieving. The 3rd period Smith takes down and Ferrari secures the riding time after the first minute, Ferrari lets Smith escape with 10 seconds left and thatās how the match ends with Ferrari advancing to the quarter finals.
Ferrariās quarter finals match was against #6 seed Mac Stout of Pittsburg University. The first period each wrestler got off a couple shots, Stout got a stalling call when he kicked out of bounds but period ended 0-0. 2nd period Ferrari chose down and quickly escaped to put the first points on the board and thatās how the 2nd period ended. 3rd period Stout goes down and Ferrari rides him and at the 30 second mark appeared to get 2 back points but was waved off. Ferrari rides the whole 3rd period and punches his ticket to the semifinals with a 2-0 decision and ends with the famous splits for the camera.
In the semifinals match, Ferrari matched up with the #2 seed Stephan Buchanan of Iowa where his little brother Angelo goes. Buchanan only has 1 loss on the year and that was couple weeks ago in the Big Ten finals against the #1 seed Jacob Cardenas of Michigan.
The match started with a lot of hand fighting and no score in the first period. Ferrari choose bottom in the 2nd period and got rode out after several attempts to escape. In the 3rd period Ferrari gives up a penalty point for lock hands and then an escape to Buchanan. Buchanan with riding time gives Ferrari his first loss on the year and Ferrari heads to the consolation semifinals to face #15 Joseph Novak of Wyoming University.
The consolation semifinals match started off with Ferrari scoring first with a takedown and riding out Novak the rest of the period. Ferrari choose bottom in the 2nd period and got the escape. Novak then takes Ferrari down and erases the riding time Ferrari had built up and added his own. Score 4-3 Ferrari, Novak chooses bottom in the 3rd period and Ferrari rides him out collecting riding time to advance to the 3rd place match where he met the #1 seed Jacob Cardenas of Michigan.
This is the match we thought we would see in the finals but here we are in the 3rd place match.
First period same as usual with no scores. Ferrari takes bottom in the 2nd period and escapes making it 1-0 to close out the 2nd period. In the 3 period Cardenas choice is bottom and Ferrari rides him out the entire 3rd period giving him a 2-0 win for 3rd place.
