Coach David Pruitt "Man of Steel" Dual

Thursday, January 12, 2017 marked the fifth year of the Coach David Pruitt “Man of Steel” dual between Cypress Woods High School and Langham Creek High School in Cypress, Texas.
David Pruitt was the head coach of Langham Creek’s wrestling team when he passed away on January 10, 2013 at the age of 39.  His son, Andrew was a senior at Cy Woods at the time.  Langham Creek’s next wrestling event was a dual meet versus Cy Woods where head coach Michael White, a close friend of Pruitt’s, and Langham Creek coach Jason Trahan created the Man of Steel Dual, with a perpetual trophy, bearing Coach Pruitt’s likeness and bronzed wrestling shoes. In February of 2013, coach Pruitt was posthumously named Class 5A Texas Wrestling Coach of the Year, an award that coach White and coach Trahan accepted on his behalf. Klein High School head coach John Banas paved the way for the honor when he deferred the Region 3 coach of the year award to Pruitt the previous week.
The 2017 Man of Steel dual marks the fifth year of the event, and the first one being held since the last of Coach Pruitt’s wrestlers have graduated. While the Cy Woods boys and Langham Creek boys prevailed on the mat in this year’s rivalry, wrestlers and coaches displayed the family bond that exists between these two programs, coming together to pose with the perpetual trophy, which will spend one more year at Cy Woods.
