The Klein Oak Panthers hosted their annual Gator Roll Tournament this past Saturday. There were teams from 6A, 5A, one from 3A, and one Prep/Parochial team in attendance. From those teams, there were nine WrestlingTexas ranked wrestlers participating.
Despite the small numbers involved in the tournament, there was no lack of wrestler intensity, desire to win, or emotions from the fans cheering on their wrestlers.
At 106, Joseph Price, 5A # 2 at 113, came out on top; pinning his way through the bracket. He defeated Christian Aranda (28-9) of Klein Oak, at 1:15 of the first with a power half/Turk. Price and his Friendswood Mustangs are headed to the Cougar Classic next weekend in College Station.
Izmael Maynes, 113 lb. of Klein Oak (26-9) pinned the third place winner as well as the runner-up, Talbert Duggan of Clear Creek after building an 8-0 lead, at 3:15.
Klein Oak’s Spencer Ayon (20-18), was the 120 lb. champion after defeating Joshua Ellyson of Friendswood in the finals with a fall at 2:30.
Another Klein Oak wrestler, 126 lb Jayden Jones (30-4), won the title. Jones was a 5th place finisher at the CFISD tournament last week and also had a title at 132 lbs. at the Woodlands Classic Open in early December. Jones defeated Jeremy Price of Friendswood in a major decision of 10-2. Jones spent the first six weeks of the season at 132 with a 17-1 record, but has moved down a weight and will face Chris Wilemon of Klein Collins (#9) in Districts for first seed into Regions.
