Kiiler Stephens Promoted to Head Wrestling Coach at Wayland Baptist University

On January 20th, Wayland Baptist University announced their new head wrestling coach.

Aaron Meister had been the head of the WBU program for years and recently took the same position for the newly founded Friends University wrestling program in Wichita, Kansas.

Stephens had been an assistant at Wayland Baptist since August.

From Wayland Baptist University Athletic Director Rick Cooper

“We’re very excited to have such a quality man and successful coach as Kiiler on staff and ready to step into that role,” Cooper said. “He has a lot of people who think very highly of him as a mentor coach and leader. “He and (assistant) Coach (Glenn) Gray will make an excellent team of coaches moving forward.”

Stephens is originally from Greeley, Colorado and coached in Missouri for nearly 20 years prior to coming to WBU.

The Women’s program at WBU is ranked #1 in the country in NAIA.

“We have some amazingly talented young women who work really hard. Coach Meister and his staff over the past several years have done a great job of recruiting really good wrestlers and good girls. I haven’t been around so many talented people, top to bottom, in a long time. They work hard and deserve everything they get.”

The foundation that has been laid for this program that is now 11 years old is a strong one. Where it goes from here should be exciting to follow.
