The Texas Boys have finished their Fargo journey. The Juniors boys have 4 All-Americans in Greco Roman with a national champion, while the 16U boys didn’t make it through to the medal rounds. Almost a complete opposite from freestyle where the Juniors didn’t have any All-Americans but the 16U had 3 with the same placers.

We go through the junior’s day 2 journey below.
165lbs-Jared Remington ends the 1 year champion drought for the Texas juniors. Here is how it went down. Remington the 6 seed up against Thunder Page of Kansas the 7 seed and ranked #18 nationally on Flo. Remington gets an early 5 pt lead. In the 2nd Remington gives up 1 pt. with 15 seconds left Remington gives up a 2 pt takedown but Kansas can’t turn him. Remington advances to the championship match in a 5-3 decision. Remington faced off with the #1 seed Cael Gilmore of Ohio. Gilmore wasn’t ranked nationally but did place 3rd at Ohio state tournament.
Making the finals guarantees Remington a better placing then last year where he placed 4th at this same tournament.
Remington gets hit for passivity in the first period and gives up the point but doesn’t give up any turns. Gilmore tries to throw Remington but Remington lands on top and they bang heads. Only 2 pts awarded to Remington. Score with 28 seconds left is 2-1, with injury time to Gilmore and that’s how the first period ends. Gilmore gets the passive this time giving Remington another point and Remington cant turn him so the score remains 3-1 with 1:40 left in the match. With 56 seconds left Gilmore goes to through Remington but Gilmore steps out first awarding a point to Remington. Gilmore corner challenges and loses plus another point for loss challenge making score 5-1 Remington. With 2 seconds left Gilmore gets awarded 2 but Remington wins a National Championship with a 5-3 decision.

157lbs-Daniel Acosta the #4 seed had Wyatt Medlin the #1 seed from Illinois who is also ranked #3 nationally on Flo, in the semifinals, Acosta held it to 1-0 in the first period. Gave up another 2pts in the 2nd period. Acosta gets 2 pts at the 1minute mark. Acosta trying to speed up the action gets called for a head butt at 13 seconds, so everyone gets a break with Acosta down 3-2. Medlin gets another takedown and Acosta 1 pt and that’s how the match ends with Acosta losing 5-3 to go to the consolation semifinals.
Acosta finished 6th last year in Greco Roman.
In Acosta’s consolation semifinals against the Kansas wrestler, the #7 seed,
Donald Jackson, who beat McCaskill earlier in the day. In the first period Acosta gets the first passive and turns Jackson at least once and there was a discussion. So, they do it again. Again, Acosta turns Jackson twice, this time he gets the points, then a takedown and a turn to get the tech fall 9-0 in the first period. On to the 3rd place match. Acosta betters his last years performance for sure.
In the 3rd place match against the #3 seed Gregory Torosian of California. The #4 seed Acosta gives up 6 points in the first period. In the 2nd period Acosta steps out 2 more times and must settle for 4th place.
This makes the 3rd stop sign for Daniel Acosta. Placing 8th-2024, 6th-2025, and 4th-2026

157lbs Micah McCaskill wins his blood round match and is a guaranteed All-American. In the consolation quarterfinals McCaskill faced off with a Kansas wrestler. The drama here is Daniel Acosta waits to face the winner in the consolation semifinals., In the first period it was a tight 1-0 until McCaskill slipped and fell, the Kansas wrestler jump on top for 2 and then out of bounds for another 2. 2nd period started McCaskill down 5-0. At the halfway mark McCaskill appeared to get 2 from a head butt. At the end of the match McCaskill went for a headlock and missed, they gave the other wrestler 2. That’s how the match ended 7-2 with McCaskill now going for 7th place.
In the 7th place match McCaskill had an Iowa wrestler who was all business. McCaskill will settle for 8th place.

285lbs-Damian Bodiu makes it past the blood round beating the wrestler who knocked Grant Bahnsen out of the tournament on his way to getting the fall into the medal round. Bodiu faced off against an Illinois wrestler in the consolation quarter finals.
The Illinois wrestler was considerably much bigger than Bodiu. Illinois gets a 4pt takedown right off the bat. Then gives up a push out for another 2. Then yet another and another for 2 more points. Bodiu will wrestle for 7th place.
In the 7th place match, Bodiu matched up with a California wrestler who forfeited his match giving Bodui a 7th place finish.

Other Notes:
Yancy was leading until the final 30 seconds then gave up 2pts and lost the challenge to get knocked out of the blood round.
106lbs-Fernado Morales who dropped a weight from freestyle made his way to the blood round but couldn’t get through.
In 16U Elijah Allen made the blood round after losing his very first match, but loses a close decision 5-3 to make his exit.
This is only the 2nd time since 2001 that the 16U Texas Greco Roman wrestlers didnt All-American. The other year was 2021.
