In the District 16-5A Girls Wrestling Tournament at Valley View High School, the mat was set for a display of fierce competition and athletic prowess as female wrestlers from various schools showcased their skills in pursuit of victory. This event marked a pivotal moment in the wrestling season, bringing together talented athletes vying for top honors in their respective weight classes. Amidst the intense battles and strategic maneuvers on the mat, outstanding individual performances emerged, contributing to the overall success of the tournament. The culmination of this event not only celebrated the accomplishments of individual athletes but also highlighted the collective efforts of teams aiming for excellence. 

The 100-pound weight class witnessed intense competition, culminating in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th place matches. Arleth Rodriguez of McAllen Memorial secured the 1st-place spot by defeating Hailyn Gonzalez from Mission Sharyland Pioneer with a close 7-6 decision. In the 3rd-place match, Sofia Garcia of Mission Sharyland showcased her skills, pinning Jackie Mora of Mission Veterans Memorial in just 50 seconds. The battle for the 5th place saw Julieta Chapa of La Joya Juarez-Lincoln emerge victorious over Audrey Zarate of Rio Grande City Grulla, pinning her in 46 seconds. 

Wrestler Interviews:

The 107-pound weight class featured Ava Aragon of McAllen dominating the 1st-place match, pinning Kaylee Rodriguez from Mission Veterans Memorial in 2 minutes and 58 seconds. Nevaeh Guajardo of Vanguard Academy

Rembrandt-Pharr secured 5th place by defeating Sarai Osuna of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial via forfeit. 

Moving on to the 114-pound weight class, Delia Tolston of Pharr Valley View claimed the 1st-place position by swiftly pinning Rosalina Castillo from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest in just 15 seconds. Joselyn Tamez of Rio Grande City Grulla secured 3rd place with a victory over Soley Vela of Mission Veterans Memorial by pinning her in 4 minutes and 2 seconds. In the 4th-place match, Soley Vela secured her position by pinning Jennifer Rivera of Mission Sharyland Pioneer in 2 minutes and 1 second. 

Miranda Ramos of McAllen dominated the 120-pound weight class, securing 1st place by pinning Aaliyah Camarillo from McAllen Memorial in 5 minutes and 29 seconds. Destiny Salinas of Mission Sharyland Pioneer claimed 3rd place by defeating Amaris Trevino of Mission Veterans Memorial. In the 4th-place match, Abbie McVey of Vanguard Academy Rembrandt-Pharr pinned Amaris Trevino in just 40 seconds. 

The 126-pound weight class witnessed an intense 1st-place match where Elvia Davila of Mission Sharyland secured victory over Abigail Fuentes from McAllen in a close 7-5 sudden victory. Georgina Rangel of McAllen Memorial claimed 3rd place by pinning Yazmin Martinez of La Joya Palmview in 1 minute and 36 seconds….
