Returning State Champs and The Road to State

This year, there are four returning state champions in 6A, and two returning state champions in 5A. These girls battled through the state tournament last year, and are prepared to do so again this weekend. Best wishes to everyone competing, and good luck to those striving to be multiple time state champions!

The 6A returning state champions are as follows.

Amanda McAleavey

At 102 pounds, there is Amanda McAleavey from Cypress Creek. McAleavey is currently undefeated for this season. She beat Adia Ronea from Keller Central to take first in state last season. This season, McAleavey has won both her district and region tournament. She is ranked first in her weight class and has already wrestled, and defeated, the number two ranked girl in the Region 3 tournament. The girls are on track to meet again in the finals of the state tournament.

Samara Chavez

At 110 pounds, there is Samara Chavez from Arlington Martin. She is currently undefeated this season. Chavez won the state tournament as a sophomore, and took second her freshman year. Chavez beat Aylen Vivar from Austin Bowie for the first place in the state tournament last season. Chavez won her district and regional tournament this season. She has also already wrestled the number two ranked girl, Carmen Allred, and won by decision at the Region 1 tournament. Chavez and Allred may see each other again in the finals of the state tournament.

Camille Fournier

  At 119 pounds, there is Camille Fournier from Weatherford. She is undefeated this season. Fournier took second in the state tournament as a freshman, and has taken first ever since. If she wins this year, she will be a three time state champion, which is an amazing feat. Fournier has already wrestled the number two ranked girl in her weight class at the Region 1 tournament. The two may clash in the finals of the state tournament.

Lexie Basham

At 138 pounds, there is Lexi Basham from Northwest Nelson. Basham is undefeated this season. Basham has won the state tournament for the past two seasons. If she wins this year, she will be a three time state champion. She also won her district and regional tournament this year. Basham is in a different region from the number two ranked girl in the state, so they did not meet in the regional tournament. They are, however, on track to meet in the semi-finals of the state tournament.

The 5A returning state champions are as follows.

Jasmine Howard

At 102 pounds, there is Jasmine Howard from Azle. She defeated Kelley Reyes from Carrollton Turner in the finals of the state tournament last year. After taking second in the Region 1 tournament this past weekend, Howard is looking to earn her second state championship in the upcoming tournament.

At 165 pounds, there is Destiny Miles from Dallas Kimball. She defeated

Karestin Andrews from Grapevine to take first in the state tournament last year. This year, Miles won her district and regional tournament, and is currently ranked first in the state. She has already wrestled the second ranked girl in her weight at the Region 2 tournament, winning by fall in the first period. The girls could see each other again in the finals of the state tournament.
